Break down of each issue and where each side stand done by the AP (http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/0811/1416878.html).

The luxury tax is where these two sides are going to clash. This has been obvious for at least a year now.

All the other issues can probably be worked out ahead of a strike, but the luxury tax is where both sides are prepared for war. Has anyone else noticed that all the recent media reports describing "progress" on the issues have not mentioned the luxury tax as one of them?

The luxury tax is the equivalent of fighting over money--and that is ALWAYS the last issue decided in a CBA negotiation, regardless of the industry. Until the owners and players get on the same page over this one, you can forget about avoiding a strike.
