Sox shelled him a week ago when he was with Texas. Have to assume Coop saw something in his mechanics that is fixable, otherwise claiming a nobody pitcher who you just rocked doesn't make a ton of sense.

Sox also rocked him when he made two starts for Seattle in 2012.

4-16, 5.81 in his career. meh

Sox plan to have him throw batting practice to boost hitters' confidence?

Coop sees something in every pitcher he likes. It doesn't mean a damn thing...Just another bum..!!

Maybe giving the guys all the current guys an ego boost now that they know they're not the worst pitcher on the team.

Is he reporting to Chicago or to Charlotte? If the former, I assume he's getting the start Sunday in Sale's slot? I really hope we don't start a revolving door of 10 day auditions at the major league level like the North Siders do.

The White Sox need a starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/tb/tampa-bay-rays), but Noesi isn't expected to be in consideration for that spot.

There hasn't been any word yet that I've seen, but I doubt it, because he hasn't been starting this year and it's not like the Sox would have had any time to "fix" him before Sunday.

I doubt it. The Charlotte Knights were supposed to start Scott Carroll in his regular turn on Thursday night but did not do so. My guess is that they call up Carroll to start on Sunday and then send Jordan Danks to Charlotte.

Then, Carroll and Andre Rienzo would essentially compete for the 5th starter spot in the rotation, as one will likely go back to Charlotte when Chris Sale returns. I say "likely" as one could continue starting and the other could go to the Chicago bullpen with yet another pitcher (Downs, Petraica?) either going on the DL or going to Charlotte.

And then there is the case of former Dodger Javy Guerra. He has a 1.69 ERA in seven relief appearances with the Knights. I wonder if we see him soon?

I don't have a problem with it at all if Cooper sees something in this guy. Sure, sometimes the guy ends up never figuring it out but let's not pretend it never comes up aces for us. Jose Quintana, Matt Thornton, Bobby Jenks, Gavin Floyd, etc. were all reclamation projects off of other team's scrap heap.

No clue why he hasn't been brought up yet. It's not like they have a glut of solid relievers in the pen.

I'm sure they have scouts and doctors monitoring his progress, they're probably relying moreso on their actual observations and less on some limited sample size stats.

Also, Guerra was outrighted to AAA after he was acquired by the Sox, so they would have to use the last remaining spot on the 40-man roster for him. I'm sure they're being cautious wit him.

After picking up Noesi, the 40 man roster is now full.

Didn't Noesi take the 40th spot?

I believe Avisail is on the 15 day DL. . . can't they move him to the 60-day and gain another 40 man spot since he is going to be out for the season anyway?

Agreed. I just like to whine and I'm tired of seeing the same predictable collapse once the pen takes the reins in a close game.

At least Belisario looks like he's figuring it out, although I'm far from comfortable when I see that mess of a body/face running in from the track.

I like the move. Mid 90's fastball with low control. Maybe they tell him to throw strikes at 92 and work on command.

Makes sense. Felipe Paulino is on the DL so they need to bring in a guy that can stink just the same

I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if Noesi was tipping his pitches

Yes, moving Avisail Garcia to the 60 day DL would free up a spot on the 40 man roster.

We'll see I guess. Out of the bullpen, a guy who can touch 98 is worth taking a look-see. Especially with the way the current pen has performed so far.

According to Rick Hahn (http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-sox-will-give-hector-noesi-look), there are two things that Don Cooper wants to tweak with Hector Noesi to maximize Noesi's potential. Maybe they want to simplify something in his delivery, maybe he is tipping his pitchesm maybe both. But as Balke has observed, Noesi has good stuff and, let's not forget, three organizations (Yankees, Mariners and Rangers) thought he had upside. The White Sox makes four. This is a no-risk gamble so why not try it?

Speaking of tweaking other teams' pitchers, Tommy Hanson and Frank Francisco pitched very well for Charlotte tonight. Hanson went 5 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 6K's. Francisco went 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 3 K's. That is really encouraging, especially the strikeouts.

He's definitely worth a look. If we can shore up the pen, I think it will be a very competitive summer in the AL Central.

Wouldn't you love to have just half of his frequent flyer miles on all his trips from Chicago to Charlotte?

Well, Noesi pitched 1 and 1/3 innings in relief on John Danks tonight, 1 hit, 0 walks, 1 K and 0 runs. He looked OK.

On a normal night, he would have given up at least 2 home runs, but there is always a chance the cold and wind blowing in from LF was part of his pitching gameplan.

In the 7th, Noesi went 0-2 on every batter he faced. If we're going to judge guys on their ability to throw strikes, Noesi's off to a good start.

Whitesox.com is now showing him as the starter. Amusingly, they list his ERA as 0.00, instead of his real ERA of 11.74. I'm a little less worried about a bullpen game than I might have been a few weeks ago, but I still wouldn't be too upset about tonight being rained out and not having to do it at all (although it would hurt Abreu's quest for records).
