That was awful. Paulino can't start another game for the Sox, can he?

You win some, you lose some on those kind of signings.

The Sox won't be able to sit down tonight, not the way they've been spanked.

6 runs in 4 games this week. Bullpen dumpster fire or not that's not gonna win you many games.

Next plane to Charlotte or the last train to Clarksville; either way, Paulino needs to find the fastest way out of town.

Mike Nesmith and the boys surely must agree!

Following on the Monkees' theme: in light of how bad Paulino was tonight, doesn't this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdgFGZKO7ME&feature=kp) sum up his season so far?

Well, there's really no steppin' stone to where I can say that I'm a believer in Paulino.

I still believe in Paulino.........that he can have the courage to retire before his next start.

I never thought I would be calling for Dylan Axelrod, but at least that dude would only give up 4 runs over 6 innings once in a while.

Tell me again why this guy is our second starter? He's seriously turning into one of our biggest busts in the last 20 years.

Charlotte? Don't even want him in the organization.

Yeah. Perfect storm of craptitude there.

These games happen, shrug it off, come back tomorrow, and hope Paulino gets lost on his way to Charlotte.

Also, some offense would be nice, too.

On the bright side, Alexei keeps his streak alive.

I was torn a new one on other boards when I said Paulino had no business being on the roster ("you must not follow the team", "pay attention to the guys in the minors").... I stand uncorrected.

Considering that Paulino didn't come from our minor league system, and this is his sixth season in the majors, maybe you should stop frequenting those boards.

A guy named Scott Carroll has been Charlotte's best starter so far (along with Leesman- but he's a lefty)- I wonder if they they give him a shot? (he's 30 y.o. non prospect).

Otherwise we're looking at Axelrod or Rienzo- there really aren't any other options in the system-

Based on Ventura's comments in the Trib this morning- I think Paulino is gone.

I'll give Hahn some credit for doing everything he can to collect some arms in the organization that don't require giving up anything in return while we rebuild.

We must lead MLB in "reclamation projects":

Paulino (soon to be gone I think)
Cleto (looks promising)
Surkamp (AAA)
Guerra (AAA)
Boggs (AAA)
Hanson (soon to be in AAA, extended spring training)

I don't think he ever was considered the Sox' second starter. The Sox started him in game 2 only because they wanted to have righties in between the Sox' three lefty starters.

Nobody said he was any good, he's just an inning eater.

Which he can't even seem to do this year.

Not sure how much real help is on the farm for our current pitching mess... gonna have to ride some of this out. Coop better get busy.

Yup. He just got in as the righty after Sale in the rotation, not necessarily as our second-best starting pitcher.

Seen enough and not impressed. Bring up Rienzo, or anybody else, actually. If Paulino needs more work, he can do it in Charlotte (or with any other team who'd like to pick him up).

Even through 3 2/3 last night, he was over 100 pitches.

If this is a rebuilding year, no reason to have this guy up here. Bring up some of the farm kids and see if they can handle the majors.

I'm glad the last couple were night games and I was unable to watch. I think there are going to be more of these to come and now is the time to trust Hahn and Coop to address the situation as and when they see fit. It is easy to call for anyone else to come up from the minors because it must be hard to watch but bringing young, unproven, and ill prepared pitchers to get slaughtered by mlb hitters might do more harm than good.

What we really need to see right now is the hitting to come back. There is reason to believe the pitching will be solved in the future.

I love this postgame thread because of how it turned into a bunch of Monkees references. There isn't much to say about the game itself, anyway! :D:

Plus I love The Monkees.

Anyway, I look forward to the day the Sox call Tommy Hanson up as the next reclamation project. The guy's only 27 and he was a decent starter just a few seasons ago, whereas from what I can remember, Paulino never really was anything too special for any extended period of time. Hanson was at least pretty decent for 3 straight seasons. It's another stretch but I'm hopeful.

But that didn't make any sense either because when you get to 5-1, you have 2 lefty starters in a row. When you have 3 lefties and 2 righties, you will have 2 lefties in a row.

Well, obviously. But the only two righties were him and a rookie, so he went in the 2 slot. The only seriously different thing you might have done is pitch Sale and Quintana back to back at 1 & 2, thrown Paulino 3, then Danks 4 and Johnson 5, but I don't see how that's any better than what they've done.
