Great to see the Sox FINALLY doing something - following the sucess that others like Seattle and King Felix have done for years.

Tampa has done it with Price too and the Mets started it with Harvey last year. Makes too much sense. And $20 is a nice price too. I remember looking at all of these last year and them being more expensive for similar deals. (http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/sea/ticketing/kings_court.jsp)

This is such an awesome idea. Sale is the face of the future, so it's only right that the Sox market him in this way. I hope to get a ticket in the Sale K-Zone at some point this season.

So what does that make the 99% of the stadium not sitting in the vehement cheering section?

I thought during the Yankee, Red Sox, cub, etc they cost $20 plus an extra $20, a kidney, and your first born. On days that Sale pitches are they going to not be out for blood too?

I think they got rid of the price tiers (with the exception of Cubs games) so Yankees, Red Sox, Fridays in summer, etc. are all in line with other games, at least at face value. Just checking Ticketmaster, 154 section tickets for the Tuesday night game against Boston in mid-April are $20 plus Ticketmaster fees.

Apparently they re-introduced the dumb ****ing dynamic pricing, though, so maybe they'll get more expensive as you get closer to game time? We'll see how this experiment plays out.

You have to buy a ticket in Section 154 and they have a table set up behind the section (outside the Social Media Lounge... :dunno: ). Show your ticket and get your swag.

thank you.

This has the makings of another marketing disaster.

You are using the name of a Top 5 talent at his position to fill seats in an awful section of the stadium and it's going to be only about half full.

So, how many people buying a cheaper ticket in that section would rather stick out and get a crappy $5 shirt vs moving to seats which will be open behind the dugout?

So you turn your shirt inside out so you don't get busted?

whitem0nkey

just check most of the last 7 row are still not sold.

but it was much clearer as to where the K zone was this time, they had a link for the section. 2 days ago, it was real confusing and i needed to Google some things to find out its in 154.....

I don't think this will be a marketing disaster. The people who care to sit there will sit there and wear their shirts and wave their K signs. Who cares if seven rows at the back are empty? The folks who are sitting there will have fun. The folks who aren't sitting there won't care. Where is the negative consequence to a few empty seats in the back of a corner outfield section?

We walked up without tickets and bought 3 in the Kzone. It's a great night for Sox baseball!!

whitem0nkey
04-12-2014, 11:36 AM
after being at the game one issue is, the K zone was pretty full at the beginning of the game, but the next 8 -10 sections toward home plate were not that full, some times the 2-3 full rows empty in sections 147. and after a few innings people leave the K zone, for better seats.

I dont blame people when we only have 7k (i dont know the official number) to move for better seats that are empty, as long as your not a dunk idiot.

Why would that be considered a marketing disaster? $20 for a lower deck seat with lower deck access on days when one of the best pitchers in baseball is pitching and they give you a t-shirt that is probably better than the t-shirts grown men knock over little girls to get when the Chevy Pride Crew is tossing them into the stands. Only on WSI would someone find something wrong with this.

While not a marketing disaster, this promotion was not fully thought out. I understand wanting to sell some of the worst seats in the park, but that section is terrible for TV promotional purposes. That section seldom appears on TV and even when the cameras make an effort to show it they don't get a great shot because the angle is bad. It would have been MUCH better to have used one of the sections in left or right field when the t-shirts and signs would appear on TV all the time.

I had my red shirt on and just moved to a better seat, i walked in front of the usher multiple time and he did not have any problems.

Honestly when you just have 5-7K at the stadium, why harass those customers that are actually here.

To welcome ace Chris Sale back to the mound at U.S. Cellular Field this Thursday evening vs. the New York Yankees, and due to popular demand, the Chicago White Sox have expanded the "K Zone For Sale" to include Section 155 for all future Chris Sale starts.

With his dominating performance in Wednesday's 3-2 win, Chris Sale recorded his 12th career game with 10 or more strikeouts, tying him for fourth on the White Sox franchise list with Alex Fernandez. Sale accomplished the feat in his 65th start, while it took Fernandez 197 starts.

Apparently it's true .. left handed hitters have gone 0-40 against Sale .. quite a few papers have mentioned the fact that Chris hasn't given up a hit off of any lefty yet this year .. several New York papers mentioned the fact that Girardi was taking heat for sitting Brian McCann, Brett Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki in last nights loss .. when asked why those players were on the bench, Joe said just two words, "Chris Sale" .. much like when teams had to restructure their lineups when facing Randy Johnson, teams are doing the same today, when they have to face the most dominant southpaw starter in baseball..

Sale has taken notice of the "K Zone for Sale" promotion when he starts, and he appreciates the support.

"It's cool. It's fun to have the excitement of that in the ballpark and hearing those guys go crazy every time that there's a strikeout," Sale said. "It's fun to have people in the stands. Every time you get more people in the stands, it creates more energy and more excitement in the ballpark."

K being the standard notation for a strikeout.
If the batter did not swing at the third strike, a "backwards K" http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/68/Backwards_K.svg/50px-Backwards_K.svg.png
is traditionally used.
Other forms include "Kc" for a called third strike with no swing, or "Ks" if the batter did swing.

Sale understands what it's all about. I wonder what the metric will be at the end of the year on being "above average" with attendance on Sale starts. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being 5k+.

The fans are really getting their money's worth, too: Sale's got an 11.4 K/9 and a 1.83 ERA at home vs 7.2 and 2.40 on the road.
