Good move by Hahn. Q will be a cheap steady rotation guy for the next 5 years.

That's a bargain for a solid #3 these days.

Absolutely. When Homer Bailey can command 6 years $105 million, Quintana's contract looks like a bargain bin special.

Based on the average annual values of their deals, over the next few years Sale and Q are getting around 12M$ COMBINED. That's absurdly cheap for their talents.

Edit: it's actually a bit higher than that 12M$ a year, but a steal either way.

Congrats on the deal, Jose. Hope you can live up to it and much more.

Got me worried too. Buy low's the idea for Hahn, I hope. If Q winds up as the mop-up guy, Hahn winds up as Kenny II.

He was good yesterday....5 innings, no hits.

I watched that bad outing, and really it was a team clusterstink.

Everyone knows that Jose struggles with men on base, and on that day, the leadoff guy hit a chopper that went over the third baseman's head....Arizona concrete field hit, and then Marcus Simein did not cover first base on a dribbler to the 1st baseman, and boom....two on nobody out before Jose was even warm.

Downhill from there. His breaking stuff does not break in Arizona, either.
He will be fine back in the Midwest.

The cost certainty for the next few years with Sale, Quintana, and Erik Johnson really helps ease the sting of the massive salary number assigned to John Danks. In fact, if Danks does get back to being effective, the rotation as a whole is one of the better values in all of baseball.

Just do your job well and I couldn't care less what you make, I'm not signing the paycheck.

I'm surprised they would go 5 years with Q after the Danks signing not working out all that well.

Yeah, but the average price on the guaranteed years on this deal are less than $4.5 M per season, a far cry from Dank's deal which was basically for $14 M every year.

Bargain signing just like Sale. Good work by Sox.
