Listening to Bruce Levine on the Score today, he said that the Sox brass were very happy with John Danks performance yesterday.

They said he hit 92 mph with his fastball, and showed good command of all of his pitches.

This is absolutely the best news that the Sox could get, as Danks is the key to having a respectable rotation.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Johnny....we need him.
If he can get his fastball to 92, then he can be effective, as long as his other pitches are working.

Ill wait to see if he can carry 92 later in a game.

Here's the problem with Danks, and it's a big one. There just isn't enough difference between his fastball and changeup. His location needs to be almost perfect in a game for him to succeed, and how often does any pitcher achieve that? His stuff isn't good enough to get away with bad pitches. It's not the recipe for consistent success.

That was the problem last year when he topped out at 88mph.

A 91 mph fastball followed by an 81 mph changeup is just fine.
