Bad news: The Sox will not do well this season.

Good news: The Cubs should be far worse.

While I do enjoy the work of Baseball Prospectus, these projections are just that -- projections. Baseball seasons always seem to have some surprises in them. I'll wait a while before I make any absolute declarations about the 2014 season.

The link does not mention the Sox. The Good Guys will be okay this year.

I'll take 79 wins, if it's an interesting 79 wins, such as Keppinger/DeAza/Dunn dumped for some prospects with unpside, indications that either or both of Beckham and Vic have a major league bat, and good improvement in young players.

I don't understand this mentality at all.

79 wins may not be great, but it would be a 16-game improvement over last year.

I don't understand this mentality at all.

As long as the Cubs are out of playoff contention, I don't care where they finish. In fact, I'd rather they not finish with one of the worst record in the league so that Theo can be denied the top draft pick position that he so covets.

Good news: The Sox seem to be moving in the right direction.

Bad news: They are not there yet.

More good news: Even if Chicago's other baseball team is going to be bad this season, I don't have to care... so I don't.

Baseball really is impossible to predict. 2005 White Sox, 2007 Rockies and their unbelievable winning streak, 2008 Rays, 2012 A's, 2013 Red Sox who went worst to first, and on and on. The Sox have so many new players with big upsides but no track records, I honestly don't know what to expect from them. It wouldn't shock me if they were a surprise contender but it also wouldn't shock me if they played under .500 all year long. I do know that they don't have to work very hard to improve upon the wretched 2013 season. Only way to go is up.
