They have a mascot. His name is Clark. (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/chi-chicago-cubs-mascot-clark-20140113,0,7590774.story)

Don't get him confused with Clark Kent.

Nice touch with the backwards hat, that will resonate with the kids.

They're basically a pair of sunglasses away from having Poochie as their mascot

I get that mascots are supposed to be for the enjoyment of children, but I think the general idea is to not scare the hell out of the kids, either. That is awful. Just Awful.

I'm sure that they signed a #1 starting pitcher, too. Right?!?!? Oh boy, a costumed mascot!!! That's going to make me go to Wrigley Field, for sure! Now that they have a mascot does that mean they will not lose 100+ games during next season?

This sure makes more sense than a greenish yellow thing that some how and in some strange way represents a team called the White Sox.

Yeah but that greenish yellow thing is a step up from our previous efforts. No one knows what the heck Ribbie and Rhubarb were.

That should make for a decent distraction, while they figure out how to fix their stadium, and their baseball team.

Given the state of their rotation (assuming Samarj is traded), anyone they sign can be a #1 for them.

Teddy Ruxpin was already taken. That AT&T Uverse add that runs 400 times a day with the kids discussing a talking bear named "Franklin Fuzzypants" that scared them, so can't use that. So Clark it is. Like the legions of morons around Chicagoland who name their dog "Wrigley", or "Addison".

Also, Southpaw, Fredbird, and the Phillie Fanatic could all kick that mascots ass, and twice on Sunday.

Yes it is. They are very NSFWSI.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a good Sox fan writing in a nationally renowned publication, Tim Marchman, the guy who broke the 1st story about Clark the Cub (the one in which it is referred to as a nightmarish, perverted furry) is a Sox fan who lives on the South Side. Good stuff.

Everyone at the Cubs seems to think that the whole Baseball Village idea outside Wrigley will only increase the team's popularity, but I wonder whether it will just lead to hardcore fans becoming more jaded and less willing to toss money at the team. The experience, I imagine, appeals more to tourists and chads and trixies than to the "real" fans. Maybe I'm wrong.

That seems like a really high number. At the same time, I also think - without any actual evidence (just based on the fact that I have many friends who have been selected in their process) - that this has been happening for 3 off seasons now.

Cubs attendance has been dropping for the past 5 seasons. Last year was their lowest since 1997.

I know a couple of guys who are ticket brokers that used to have maybe 20-30 different Cub season ticket plans who have slowly been dropping their numbers down into the teens or less because the demand just isn't there any more and they're tired of getting stuck with games where you can find bleacher seats going for pennies online.

Cubs attendance has been dropping for the past 5 seasons. Last year was their lowest since 1997.

At this point, their glorious "attendance" numbers are being propped up exclusively by tourists and NL Central foes. A few college buddies and I went to a Cubs/Cardinals game this past season and I have to say at least 50% of the Lower Bowl were Cardinal fans. Granted, St. Louis had a good team, but the same thing happens when the Brewers or Reds are in town, too, they absolutely swarm Wrigley.
