I'd love to see the Sox make a trade for him. He's the type of player that we need

I think we've got plenty of overrated guys primed for a physical decline already.

Span is much better defense of player than DeAza.

I'd rather sign Michael Young as a FA.

Absolutely, he's the one veteran I want us to sign. Perfect stopgap 3B.

I would consider Span for one reason only, he is a product of the Twins minor leagues and they teach them how to play the game. Maybe some of that would rub off on some of the stiffs on the Sox roster.

I think the Sox might be able to get those same intangibles from Michael Young, and he plays one of the positions that is a strong need.

I'd like to get an upgrade for CF, but C and 3B are the top two positions on my list of holes to fill.

I see no reason for Young to come to the Sox unless other teams think he is totally washed up (if thats the case then he probably is) or the Sox really over pay in years and salary. The Sox wont seem like a good fit for someone in his situation.

He is washed up, I am not sure what the appeal is.

He's better than Keppinger and Gillaspie, even with diminished skills.

I'm hoping we bring in at least one of the two this year. While this year will be a lot of playing younger guys IMO, I still think we need to obtain a few pieces this year rather than try to make too many moves next offseason. I've spent years begging for us to take a good catching prospect in the draft, but we continue to ignore that deficiency. We have two back-up quality guys and should keep one. No reason to keep Flowers if Phegley is doing better.

I want us to explore Alexei-Freese deals because it could help each team, and we could use the salary savings and give Garcia a shot there to show what he has.

Freese is coming off a down year, though, and he's gonna be 31. I'd be wary of acquiring him. It is true that his down year was still better than what the Sox had at 3B, but if the team is going to deal Alexei, I'd rather trade for a piece(s) that might provide a more long-term solution somewhere on the diamond.

That's not really a reason to sign him.
