I remember Hawk's comment when we first got Kotsay in 2009, "He's going to be a big reason why we win this division." Yeah.

And I will never get over the failed DH by committee crap we had to put up with in 2010.

I was hoping he would come back here, so he could once again be overused.

Why do people continue to act like it was a Kotsay vs Thome decision? It was a Kotsay vs the TONS of cash they would have had to overpay Thome to bring him back decision.

Jim Thome made $1.5 million with Minnesota that season. Mark Kotsay made $1.5 million with the White Sox (they also paid Andruw Jones $500,000 to be the other half of that horror show DH platoon).

they also paid Andruw Jones $500,000 to be the other half of that horror show DH platoonJones only played 14 games at DH in 2010. He only started at DH 10 times.

Here's the breakdown, per baseball-reference:

Kotsay - 46
Konerko - 23
Quentin - 23
Ramirez - 21
Teahen - 10
Pierre - 10
Jones - 10
Viciedo - 4
Rios - 2
Lillibridge - 2It wasn't a platoon, it was a committee.

If I remember correctly, Thome pretty much begged to come back and was willing to sign with us for about $1 million for 1 year. Money was NOT an issue.

It's bad enough that the Sox turned him down and missed out on his productive 2010 season, but we also in the process handed his bat over to the Twins and he helped them beat us to the division title.

The worst part of all of it was how they strung him along the weekend of Soxfest, hinting at the media that they were seriously entertaining the thought of bringing him back, to put on a nice face for the fans, and then turned and gave him the cold shoulder immediately afterwards.

This was also about the same time Ozzie and his kids turned the Sox into the "Ozzie Guillen Show." Great memories.

Wasn't the deal that if they had kept him around and then resigned him they wouldn't have been able to resign him for that cheap?

I had honestly forgotten they had traded him to LA when I made my first statement.

I think that was the situation with Frank Thomas after 2005.

Kotsay is (was) still in baseball? That implies someone actually thought he had some talent. At least it indicates that there are some really incompetent GM's and front office people around.
