Version whatever. Rotoworld reports he's been released.

I don't share some of the Dewayne hate seen here. He made one of the most memorable defensive plays in Sox history. He had more postseason RBIs for the Sox than, oh, Frank Thomas. Hustled all the time, which probably extended his career. Good luck, Dewayne.

Thanks for The Catch, Dewayne. Good luck in the future

Never understood the ridiculous hatred for a 4th outfielder, seemed too many here blamed the Sox struggles on you. You'll catch on somewhere else on a veteran team as a 24-25th man.

Beautiful game. Spectacular catch.

Best wishes Dewayne Wise.

Thanks for The Catch. I agree with those who have said that Wise has caught a lot more heat than he has deserved, as a career 4th or 5th OF. It was the more glaring failure of others to put him in a position he was never meant for.

Through no fault of his own he has been a symbol of the ineptitude of the Sox management decisions

To get over 1100 AB's over 13 years with a career .228 ba, .264 obp, and .391 slg is an amazing feat. Enjoy your pension Mr. Wise.

Don't worry, guys, the Sox will sign him again next year.

But, really, the I agree that the hatred of Wise isn't so much about Wise as it is about what it meant that the Sox were putting him into a position he really wasn't meant for. Kind of the same thing that happened with Rob Mackowiak, only stretched out over 5 years.

In reality, Wise was put in a bad position by this organization. He was not an everyday starter, but still played everyday when he shouldn't have.
But regardless, thanks for the catch and stepping up in 2008. He's a pretty stand-up guy and good luck in his future endeavors.

Wise, thanks for playing hard. Hope you realize that the vast majority of Sox fans don't think booing you on Opening Day is the best way to support our team.

Great catch, dude.

Btw: Rick Hahn, next offseason it would be nice to go into camp with at least a semblance if a major league bench.

Most of the hatred was spawned by the fact that he was the opening day starting CF in 2009. As a 4th or 5th outfielder, I don't think most people has a problem with him.

I don't get it either, it's not like Wise was the first player kept as a bench player due to his defensive and baserunning abilities.

Nice stats against rays in '08 playoffs. 1.232 ops

I'll forgive him everything else b/c he made one of the most memorable plays in MLB history, but I'm certainly not sad to see him go.

Worst player in MLB. Goodbye.

Tyler Flowers and Jeff Keppinger say hello.

Wise did a decent job as an extra outfielder. It was only when he was asked to play every day that he failed. If used properly, he's a good guy to have around.

An interesting question: what to do with sold out games? It's harder for sports, especially football, to give up seats with 10% the amount of games. Basketball and hockey have more games than football but a lot less capacity.

Truth. Hell, he probably wasn't the worst outfielder on the roster.

IMO, he's better than a couple outfielders on the current 25-man. Maybe that doesn't say a whole lot, but it does defeat the argument that Wise was/is the worst player in MLB.

Incredibly, Corky Miller (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/milleco01.shtml) is still on a big-league roster. I might nominate him as the worst player in MLB.
