comments on Frank's non slide. Jerry Manuel said he didn't say anything to Frank since he figured the players would. He also Frank has been playing baseball for 35 years and should of known to slide. Frank said he was fooled by the Rays catcher into thinking there was no play at the play. Carlos Lee ribbed Frank a little about it.

After looking at the play again, Frank's explanation does seem to fit. The catcher did move back off the plate for a brief moment, and it appeared Frank tried to slide at the last second when he realized there was a play at the plate. Mark Johnson was totally out of position to do his job on that play, I wonder if anyone got his case. So Frank should slide but didn't and Mark should of been there to guide Frank to slide but wasn't.

This is yet another example of bad baserunning. Frank needs to stop tip-toeing around the bases, and players and coaches need to communicate better.

Gary Pettis should have been fired after the series in Detroit, where the Sox committed several baserunning blunders. These guys are Major League ballplayers, yet they don't know their way around the basepaths anymore than a five-year-old who is first learning how to play the game. How pathetic is that?

Sidenote: I know this has been talked about before, but does anyone have the feeling that the Sox troubles began when Ward, Pettis, and of course, Ken Williams came on board?
