Cubs closing in on deal to send Carlos Marmol to @Dodgers (https://twitter.com/Dodgers), sources tell @ESPNBruceLevine (https://twitter.com/ESPNBruceLevine). Marmol was DFA'd on 6/25. http://es.pn/11bnqGm (http://t.co/FNZHlYcQd5)

Sounds like throwing gas on a fire.

I assume they are giving the Cubs a bag of balls in return.

This trade gives me hope. If LA is willing to trade for Marmol there has to be somebody who trades for Adam Dunn.

Chicago Cubs

Cubs tooday acquired RHP Matt Guerrier from the #Dodgers (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Dodgers&src=hash) for RHP Carlos Marmol and Chicago’s fourth international signing bonus slot.

So a trade of two DFA'd guys? I don't think I've ever seen this before.

LA waived him already.

LA waived him already.

That was a procedural move to send him down to the minors.

LA waived him already.

It's just procedure so he can go to the minors and start pitching with their coaches.

I think they just wanted the international slot money

I think they just wanted the international slot money

That might be the case. But Marmol is remaining with the Dodgers organization.

EDIT: Umm, Peter Gammons confirmed that about the international slot. Basically, the Dodgers are paying $500k for about $200k in slot money.
