At the Friday doubleheader with Cleveland, there was a guy sitting in the aisle directly behind the Cleveland bat boy. After the bat boy collected game-used baseballs and even a broken bat, he handed them directly to this guy. He wasn't wearing any identifiable team gear, but he was wearing what could have been a photo ID on a lanyard around his neck.

After he received each item from the bat boy, he made an entry in a little black book, and then removed a label from a roll of what appeared to be similar to a roll of barcode labels, and applied that label to the item. When he was done with a broken bat, he handed the bat to someone inside the Indians dugout. The balls he kept in a bag under him.

Didn't know that there was a market for a Yan Gomes broken bat. Have you noticed this with other teams at the Cell? At other ballparks? Where does this stuff get sold?

It's part of the MLB authenticity program.

Each team parts with its game-used items in different ways. The Sox auction items on their website and at the park and sell them at their Garage, Yard and Clubhouse sales.

My dad has a game used Nestor Smith bat. I don't believe ol' Nestor made it past AA, but it is still an at least somewhat treasured item.
