Been watching this kid for the last week and a half and I'm impressed.
I know it's early but he could turn out to be the real deal and will probably be along with Longoria the face of the Rays franchise for years to come.
I know the Royals needed pitching and got Shields but how they let this kid get away is beyond me.

That's what most people ...outside of a vocal minority on this board... have been saying since the trade was made. I don't know what the Royals were thinking.

And the Rays got pitching prospect Jake Odorizzi in the deal, too. In 2012 and 2013 in AA and AAA, Odorizzi went a combined 20-6 with an ERA around 3.00 and an average of 9 K's per 9 innings. Odorizzi was one of the pitchers that K.C. got in the Zack Greinke deal but they let him get away in the Shields deal.

That Shields trade is going to be a great one for the Rays.

Said it the moment that deal happened, it was stupid.

Myers is a stud, but they had Frenchy in right lol.

The Royals probably were looking at the regression of Hosmer and Moustakas and thought that they needed pitching...which they did. I'm not saying I agree with the trade, but I can see why they did it. Getting Shields and Davis gives them 2/5 of a rotation and acquiring Santana even more. Dayton Moore had to make a bold move in order to save his job too.

Myers has now played 40 games, just hit his 8th HR and now has 32 RBIs along with a .331 BA and .910 OPS.
Won last nights game with a walk off single. So far the kid looks like he can handle the pressure.
I still say KC was insane trading this kid.

Yeah I think he's the real deal.

As I (and many others) said, you don't make that trade if you're KC unless you're a James Shields away from being a legitimate contender. They were a James Shields away from being a .500 team, and lo and behold they're 56-52 and their young stud is leading the Rays toward another postseason run.

Horrible, horrible trade.

Who cares? I'm just glad the Royals got him out of the AL Central, he's going to be a good one.

I care as I watch the Rays just about every game and it's nice to watch a kid come in and play so well, when is the last time we had something like him on the White Sox. Besides that, this part of the Forums is called Talking Baseball.

Nell: As I am sure you know, Zobrist is another very valuable asset Tampa has along w Myers and Longoria. I was not impressed w Jennings offensively as a lead-off in the Boston series but 2-3-4 was certainly impressive.

Longoria has been in a slump but got a big hit today and hit the ball hard.
Maybe the Sox can get some tapes from the Rays on how to play the game.

I don't know who Will Myers is, but Wil Myers has looked pretty darn good so far.

Now hitting .433 over his last 18 games. Guy's an absolute beast.

Does anyone get the feeling that if KC had kept him, he'd be hitting .217 with 2 k's per game? He's be Moustakas and Hosmer part 3.

It's funny how at this time of year i always seem to end up watching more and more Rays broadcasts .. for some reason, i can't bring myslef to watch the Marlins as much anymore .. i lived almost 20 years in south florida and still have a interest the teams there..

And manage.
