Excellent news, I'm a big fan of both Lowry and Michalczewski later down the line, hoping to god that this is the draft that really turns this organization's farm system back around.

White Sox agreed to terms with first-round pick SS Tim Anderson. (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/MLB/7491/Tim-Anderson)

Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that Anderson will receive a $2.164 million bonus, which is the exact slot recommendation assigned to the 17th overall pick.

If a guy doesn't sign, does anything count against the pool of draft funds we have? As in is there any sort of cap hold or is it no harm no foul at least from a financial standpoint?

Any word on Octavio Rodriguez? According to the experts he is the late round flyer with the most potential.

http://www.thegoodphight.com/2013/6/6/4383738/mlb-draft-101

Let's say the Bonus Pool (slotting system) is set at $10mm based on your pick, but you fail to sign 2 players in the Top 10, worth $500K total. Your pool goes down that $500K. Now let's say you draft Jared Cosart now in the 38th round, the most you can offer him is $100K. Anything offered to a pick after the 10th round in excess of $100K is counted against the pool for Top 10 rounds. In other words, if the Astros do what I said above with Moran and Kaminsky and still manage to come in $500k under the cap for the first 10 rounds with no unsigned picks reducing their money, they could draft a Jared Cosart in the 38th and offer him $600K to sign. Half a million of that total would go against their Top 10 round money, bringing them to the max.

BA's got a nice Draft tracker going right now, I'll try to keep the OP in this thread updated, but here's another good resource:

Also details bonuses and tracks how the Sox are doing budget-wise.

Any word on Octavio Rodriguez? According to the experts he is the late round flyer with the most potential.

I'm not getting my hopes up too much (mainly because of the indefinite nature of the quote), but he plans to make a decision later in the summer (http://www.elpasotimes.com/sports/ci_23470554/4-area-baseball-players-named-all-state-2nd).

Since this is by far the most intriguing of the unsigned draft picks (and the big league club is painful to watch), I want to play the speculation game a bit. According to Baseball America (http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/2013xteam.php?team=1026), we have $247,800 left to spend of our bonus pool. Now while this amount is specifically meant for the first 10 picks, we can spend it on picks 11-40, but it will count towards the pool. Judging by what bonuses have been awarded for other eighth round picks (http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/2013xrnd.php?rnd=8), and what Baseball America has for our bonus pool +/-, the slot bonus for Chris Freudenberg would be $154,000. If we sign Freudenberg for that slot, that would leave $93,800 of bonus pool money for Rodriguez, plus the $100,000 maximum for players after round 10.

Now will $193,800 be enough to sign Rodriguez? Probably not. It will take some shrewd negotiating with our last signing to get that figure well north of $200k, and perhaps the White Sox taking a 75% penalty tax on whatever amount over the pool it takes to get Rodriguez to skip Oklahoma and start his professional career. More importantly, it'll take Rodriguez passing on playing in Norman, which will likely be the biggest hurdle. He seems to be very excited to work with Oklahoma pitching coach Jack Giese (http://www.elpasotimes.com/sports/ci_22609159/cougar-hurler-is-years-player-watch), who has worked with CC Sabathia and Clayton Kershaw. The chance to get that kind of tutelage for 3 years must have his confidence very high, high enough to make himself believe that he could be a first-round talent.

My guess is it'll take at least $300,000 minimum to pull him away from OU. I would be surprised if we offer that, and would be even more surprised if Rodriguez were to take it. Money talks, though. We'll see.

So by my count that leaves 6 left out there, the two big fish are Engel at 19 and Rodriguez at 33. Not hopeful on Rodriguez, but any rumors out there about Engel now that the Cardinals have been eliminated from the CWS?

At last count we still have $22,800 in bonus money left. Pretty sure we're not going to be able to entice anyone to skip college with that much money.

They've signed 30 of the first 32 kids they've drafted. Instead of bringing up the outlier, why not be happy that they've spent almost all of their allotted money and brought in a large group of draftees?

Whatever the case may be, it doesn't really matter, the Sox took a flyer on Rodriguez in the late rounds but everyone knew he was going to be a tough, tough sign, so the team has wisely used it's time, money, and energy on inking the majority of the other players selected in what overall looks to be a pretty solid draft.

Exactly. Looking at our budget, we actually have our first 32 picks signed with $122,800 left to spend in terms of bonus money. Is Rodriguez going to sign for that little? Probably not. I'm sure that the Sox will contact him eventually, but at this point, it's in his best interest to go to college.

Yeah, because recruits always tell the truth. The question here is if he is really that talented, why did everyone else pass on him so many times? Sometimes, the player (or the people around him) makes life difficult for himself. I don't know in this case, but the fact that he is one of only two of the top 32 draftees the Sox have yet to sign this year suggests to me that there are issues at play other than Sox management. After all, signing draftees hasn't been the Sox problem. Scouting and developing them has been.
