Well, this is obviouslky not good for a team struggling to hit. Dayan was 7 for his last 14 with three doubles.

This is starting to remind me of '07 when the Sox would call up the likes of Andy Gonzalez, Dewon Day, Jerry Owens, etc.

guys who I had never heard of and didn't expect to do anything at the plate.

A problem that hasnt changed with a system devoid of talent.

Agree. I had posted a while ago that some teams are proactive and sign a veteran or two to a minor league contract. Boston and New York do it. In fact the Red Sox ended up releasing Ryan Sweeney when he refused a minor league contract with them and became a free agent. But the Cubs grabbed him and placed him in AAA. In fact, I think Sweeney would have been a better option than wise.

Chicago White Sox

White Sox recalled outfielder Blake Tekotte from @KnightsBaseball (https://twitter.com/KnightsBaseball). He will wear uniform No. 18.

Tekotte, 25, had been playing extended spring training games in Glendale, Ariz. and was reinstated from the disabled list yesterday.

Tekotte was acquired by the @whitesox (https://twitter.com/whitesox) from the @Padres (https://twitter.com/Padres) on November 7, 2012 in exchange for pitcher Brandon Kloess.

I haven't been following his progress since the minor league season started (he had a great Spring Training), but this would have been a perfect opportunity to bring up Jared Mitchell and let him play nearly everyday for 2 weeks.

Mitchell was sent down to Birmingham yesterday. He's been awful.

Since you haven't been following here are his stats at Charlotte this year. They are Dunn like. In fact, even prior to this year his progress has been underwhelming.

I saw on Twitter where Keith Law mentioned that a scout had Mitchell on a list for recommendations of release.

He'll be 25 at the end of the season.

Maybe they give him one more year after this as a last ditch effort to become a 4th outfielder type, but he's really not a factor of becoming an everyday player anymore.

The speed with which he got sent to the DL makes me think its a mild to severe strain. I expect this to affect him for a lot longer than 15 days.

Could be. Could also be they know he'll be out several days and they'd rather have another player in that spot than play with 24 instead.

I'm no doctor though, so what the hell do I know, it's just baseless speculation either way.

That really says it all.

We're paying the price for Jerry and Kenny ignoring the minors, draft and player development for years.

Sad thing is its going to take 2-3 more drafts, good signings and more attention to the system under Hahn to change this.

I also think we could have done a better job assembling the bench, but that's primarily a payroll issue.

There is one person to blame on this and if he doesnt change his philosophy, Hahn wont be able to do too much.

Six years removed from that 2007 season and this team has made essentially no progress in improving the talent level in the organization. ....and with no apparent accountability in this failure. The management team that brought us this mess is still here.

But at least our team's slogan is #makeanimpact.

From padresprospect.com's 2012 top Padres prospects list:

"21) Blake Tekotte – There’s a lot to like about Tekotte’s game, but his ceiling likely resides as a fourth outfielder on a contending team – and there’s nothing wrong with that. Tekotte offers plus defense in center and should be able to handle either outfield corner with a bit more experience"

So he was #21 in the Padres system? Ceiling fourth outfielder. He should be cut for his clown play tonight - but if we were going to cut players for that, we'd have to cut 1/2 the team.
