This was also going to be my first game of the year; was willing to brave the cold. Probably for the best to keep Peavy et al healthy. Don't need any muscle pulls from the cold. Kudos to the Sox for calling it this early.

Glad to hear they postponed this game well in advance. Maybe they'll reschedule it for August 8th!

That would mean the Sox play 31 days in a row.

Don't count on August 8.

Maybe they'll cancel another game in July for sub-freezing overnight temperatures.

With the way this year has been going, let's not count it out yet.

Advance sales had to be really bad.

I've been to a game where I've worn my winter clothes in June.

It was colder than the 54 degrees than it says at game time... 1992 was the most miserable summer ever.

I recently attended a Braves game which despite the weather hovering around 40 degrees with constant drizzling rain was not postponed. Everyone in my group of 20 did not bother showing, save me and my +1, and even we said **** it and left after the 4th inning. I'm looking at the forecast for tonight's Sox game and the forecast is basically identical. Does anyone know who or what entity in specific is responsible for issuing a postponement of games? I want to write a letter to whomever is responsible for issuing the postponement and ask them why they did not postpone the game I attended.

I believe before 1st pitch it is up to the home team. After it is at the discretion of the umpires.

That is correct, unless the visiting team will not be coming back at the end of the year. Then, is up to the umps and MLB. If the Sox were playing a team that wasn't coming back again, they would've had no choice but to play tonight. Since Minnesota is a division team, it's not an issue.

I was at a game on Friday night against the Twins a few year ago. The wind chill was like 18 or something. By the fourth inning, we went to the bullpen bar. By the 6th, we left. The Sox were getting killed anyway.

And of course, we went to the next game. It was about 30 degrees, but it was at least sunny and no wind. The Sox won like 8-0. We stayed for the whole game. There were probably less than 5k still around by the end. Getting out of the parking lot was a breeze. That is the only game I stayed until the end where this was the case...

This means Sale won't be pitching next Tuesday when I'm there like he was scheduled to.

Without a doubt. This was a business decision.

Didn't the Sox do the same thing one night on the same night of a Bulls playoff game?

It was just hailing outside downtown an hour ago. It isn't like they are going to draw worth **** for a random makeup game anyway.

I also wouldn't put it past the Sox if Hahn who was on this 10 game road trip and saw how bad things were going, didn't talk to Robin along these lines...

"The weather is supposed to be pretty bad Friday, if there's a reasonable chance to postpone would you have any problems with this?"

Give the guys a day off, try to get their heads back together and hopefully play under better conditions Saturday. Hell these guys had trouble hitting the ball under pretty good conditions in Washington and Toronto...what makes anybody think they'd do better when it's freezing outside?

I'm glad it was postponed. Sitting out there tonight freezing to death is not my idea of fun. I'm sure the players are glad it was postponed also. Also, a day off after that miserable road trip might do some good for the team.

Jake Peavy gets the start Saturday afternoon. All of the other White Sox starters move back one day in the rotation, with Gavin Floyd starting Sunday's series finale and Dylan Axelrod opening the Cleveland series Monday night at home.

This postponement is the sixth in the history of U.S. Cellular Field due to cold temperatures. The most recent postponement due to cold was on April 10, 2008, vs. the Twins.

Both teams have an off-day on Thursday, Aug. 8, before the Twins' three-game series that weekend in Chicago. If that was the makeup date selected, the Twins would play from July 30 to August 26 without an off-day, meaning it would be more likely that the two teams would play a weekend doubleheader and maintain Thursday's off-day.

I think this was just a case where it really was just too cold to play.

Too simple. Even if the snow was coming down sideways up here, there must have been some nefarious purpose in the postponement.

We would also not have an off-day from July 19 to August 18 if that was the makeup date.

The Twins are also back in Chicago from September 16-18, which comes at the end of another 20-straight stretch for the Sox and is in the middle of a 20-straight stretch for the Twins to end the season.

This is the third postponement for the Twins already this year, who have to makeup home games with the Mets and the Angels.

I don't get through Chicago very often but was there yesterday. Cold weather doesn't bother me too much so I was prepared to buy a warm hat and gloves and head down with an almost-free ticket from StubHub. But that's my choice - the vendors, ushers etc. wouldn't have that choice. Plus, season ticket holders and those with tickets purchased at face value would have needed to suck it up or eat their tickets.

There are five months to get this game played, CWS management did the right thing.

The Twins tweeted about the makeup game against them.

Nothing from the Sox or Indians about that game yet. I would assume June 28, kinda like the Twins makeup.
