Argh. wonder who gets the callup?

Bummer. Looks like Gillaspie is going to get his shot.

Maybe they'll bring up recently-signed Tyler Greene. Can't hit out of a wet paper bag, but he's good defensively at 2B.

Argh. wonder who gets the callup?

Not necessarily an infielder, per Scott Merkin. Move will be made tomorrow.

Won't miss the bat, definitely will miss the glove.

Maybe an OF who can play defense (not Dewayne Wise).

I'd think Jordan Danks would be called up.

Possible free agents available are Ryan Theriot and Freddy Sanchez. Also while looking them up I noticed someone who I think would be better for this team than who we have starting in CF or as our 4th outfielder. Grady Sizemore is a free agent and I believe he is now healthy as well.

And the injury bug strikes early this season.

Robin has needed to use that bullpen an awful lot lately. I wouldn't be surprised if in the short term they call up Omogrosso to fill the extra spot. They still have Sanchez as a backup infielder.

Too bad they cant get anyone up for todays game. I hate them playing with 24, mostly in a nl park.

If not for Keppinger sucking so badly, I might not have minded this.

So if Keppinger was hitting .400 right now you would be happy Beckham broke his wrist? Interesting.

With no days off in the near future, and the starting pitching looking a little shaky, I think it may be a pitcher that gets called up.

Whoa. Happy and not minding are two completely separate concepts.

If Keppinger played to his ability, we would be more productive with him at 2B in lieu of Beckham.

1B options: Konerko, Dunn, Gilaspie and Keppinger
2B options: Keppinger, Sanchez
3B options: Gilaspie, Keppinger
SS options: Ramirez, Sanchez

OF has all the starters with Wise, Keppinger (LF) and Dunn able to back them up.

Robin would have to be creative with giving guys off days but I would prefer another arm over Tolleson, Morel or Greene.

Possible arms to be pulled up would have be Ommogrosso, Stewart, Jeff Gray, Jhan Marinez or Ramon Transoco.

Move Keppinger to second, bring up Morel and have him platoon with Gillaspie at third?

Whatever the case, Sox will have to live with it until June.

Perhaps my thread title was misleading, as later news stories I have read about Beckham say 6-8 weeks (or, alternatively, at least 6 weeks).

Scott Merkin (I think it was) speculated on twitter than the Sox might call up Morel. That said, he also thought they might go with a pitcher in Omogrosso.

Does it really matter whom they call up?

Let's hope the replacement is the guy who sucks least.

In a pinch, Viciedo can play 1st and 3rd as well. Don't laugh, I've seen Jermaine Dye at SS, in a pinch.

Even though he doesn't seem to be able to hit anymore, it hurts to see Lillibridge in a Cub uniform. It was nice having a true super-sub on your team that you could plug in anywhere infield or outfield, although he's probably better off in the NL.

That was an extremely rare instance caused by a renegade, douchebag umpire. I can buy Viciedo at 1B, it's not exactly the world's most challenging position defensively, but if he ever puts Viciedo in at 3B and there is literally... any other person on the team available, I'm going to blow my top.

That said, the Trib also speculated Tyler Greene might get the nod, he's a 29-year-old AAAA player in Charlotte right now, former 1st round pick of the Cardinals many moons ago whose been up and down between the Majors and AAA for most of the last 4 seasons now. Though, as I type this, they would need to make room on the 40-man roster for Greene, right? Which probably means he's not an option. ****ing dumb ass Tribune baseball writers.

I agree, we already know what we have in Beckham: nothing special, but I'm kind of excited to see Gillaspie everyday.

I think it'll be interesting to see what Gillaspie does with this time, but Beckham only just turned 27 and his potential could really spring up anytime.

Anyways, I'm guessing the potential choices with the available roster spot would be Morel, Jordan Danks, Blake Tekotte, and maybe even a pitcher.

As others have said, with the upcoming schedule the Sox probably need another reliever.

Uh, I wouldn't really hold my breath, the kid's got nearly 550 games and over 2,000 plate appearances in his career, generally people don't just "find it" at that point. I might be somewhat hopeful if he was showing gradual, steady improvement, but he's generally gotten progressively worse over his career. I guess miracles do happen from time to time (****in magnets, how do they work?) but anybody who expects anything more from Beckham than what we've seen - good glove at 2B, average bat for a middle infielder - I think is going to continue to be dissapointed by him. He is what he is.

This board loves to think that career bench guys will suddenly be awesome. Hey, that Dallas McPherson was quite the buy!

Right-hander Deunte Heath was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

Keppinger will move from third base to second base, where he has started the past two games against the Nationals and has played more than any other position in his career. Conor Gillaspie at third base against right-handed pitchers, and Ventura has confidence in Angel Sanchez's ability across the infield.

You're absolutely right about how his career has gone thus far. He went from our future at 3B to a quality fielder at 2B.

And I really haven't expected much from him these past 2 years, but after last year he hit a career high in HR's and I thought early season struggles really hindered him. He was finally having what looked to be a pretty nice start to the season, and I think without the injury he could've been somewhere around 20 HR .260. Still not the player we drafted, but certainly solid.
