We all know about the celebration of the 1983 divisional title's 30th anniversary, but are the White Sox doing anything specific to celebrate the 1993 divisional title's 20th anniversary? Unless I missed it, I don't recall seeing anything about the latter.

Let the 1993 team have 2018 for the 25th anniversary. It would shortchange both 1983 and 1993 to feature them in the same year.

They will be wearing 1993 replica uniforms every game except for Sunday home games.

That was good although you know the 93 team didn't have names on the backs of the jersey's.

Where's the "Like" button? Made me laugh at work. Thanks for that.

Correct. The Sox didn't start wearing names on the backs of their home jerseys until 1997, when Albert Belle joined the team.

When the Blue Jays come to town- their will be a re-enactment of Michael Jordan announcing his retirement.

Having the names on their uniforms again, right? I thought the Sox under Veeck were the first team to put names on the back of a uniform.

Correct. However, when they switched to the pinstripes in 1990, they did not put names on their home uniforms until '97.

But still had them on road uniforms? I wonder how common that is/was.

Spivak:

It was on the back of road uniforms in 1960....although names were on the backs of jerseys for a short period of time if I remember correctly in the 1920's. Don't remember the team.

Yes, they did, and the black alternates. The Cubs did something similar with their uniforms (no names at home) until 1993. The Giants and Red Sox do not have names on their home uniforms. The Yankees have never had names on any of their uniforms.

Now teams are required to have names on the back of their road jerseys, although the Yankees are exempt.

I suspect the 1993 team is going to be forever shortchanged for these sorts of things, just because it'll always end up being overshadowed by the 83 team, if just because it gives them an excuse to break out the silly uniforms.

1983 was special because it was the first championship in Chicago in 20 years. By 1993, winning a division didn't mean as much.

And now winning a division means as much as winning a wild card if you don't get to the World Series.

And afterwards Dan Pasqua will deliver a 'special' package to your house.
