A total clownshow on that Cedeno AB.

1) Cedeno swings at a ball just under his face.

2) Cedeno manages to lace the ball to right, where Nelson Cruz waits for the ball to come to him - then proceeds to mishandle the ball, knocking it away from himself.

3) After recovering the ball, he throws it in to Kinsler. Cedeno was trying for 3rd, and was barely rounding second when the ball got to Kinsler...but he managed to drop the throw. Cedeno winds up at third.

Brilliant display of defense, Texas.

Bryce Harper on pace for over 300 HRs.

Lost in the excitement over Harper is that Stephen Strasburg has given up only one hit to the Marlins. Imagine if they end up facing the Blue Jays in the World Series. The city of Montreal might implode.

Off of George Kontos, who's in a jam after replacing Matt Cain an inning earlier. I wonder why Cain left after 6 scoreless IP; high pitch count?

That's what it looks like. I'm still at work, but I've been checking the scores online, and he threw ninety two pitches through six innings.

92 pitches doesn't sound that high for a guy who consistently throws ~220 IP per year.

There's no mention of an injury. I wonder if Bochy is just being conservative because it's the first week of the season.

O's tie it up in the bottom of the 8th, Chris Davis comes up with the bases loaded... and hits a grand slam. Also had a sac fly earlier. HRs in his first 4 games (no one has done that before), now with 16 RsBI. :o:

I meant to draft him but he was grabbed before I could. I think he is going to have a good year, along with Mike Morse in Seattle, who also was grabbed before I could get him.

He had 0 HRs and 4 RsBI in April 2012. That is one deep, scary-looking lineup; and one unimpressive looking pitching staff. They could hit well north of 200 HRs and yet finish in 3rd place.

I agree. They'll score plenty of runs, but they'll also give up more than their share. I'm not completely sold on either Oakland or Texas, as I think all three teams will be fighting for control of the division until the final weeks of the season.

I heard Maddon's response on the way to work this morning, and I'm amazed at the restraint he showed in his interview. MLB needs to do something about situations like this. Of course, with Jest West as president of the of umpire association, it's hard to believe anything good can come of this.

MLB play-by-play announcers are always quick to point out that balls and strikes are judged based on the ball's location as it crosses the plate, rather than where the catcher catches the ball, as fans sometimes mistakenly believe. Be that as it may, the ball is clearly outside the strike zone as it crosses the plate, and should not have been ruled a strike.

Does anyone else besides me find it amusing that AJ was involved in this play? Obviously, he had nothing to do with the call being incorrect, but it's funny that he was there.

Looking at that, it bothers me even more that the first pitch was called a strike in spite of its being outside the zone. What the hell was Foster thinking? I don't think Foster deserves to be suspended, as he admitted that he'd made a mistake after the game was over. Having said that, I hope MLB issues some form of punishment, as he clearly wasn't doing his job properly.
