Essentially replaces Myers. Solid move, not much to dislike.

It should be obvious to everybody that the White Sox are trying to get into the 2013 playoffs. This is definitely not a youth movement. Hopefully we can get a good left handed hitter to add to the team. I think it would even be better if Dunn is moved by Opening Day.

We've got a good staff.

Throws a split and a heater just like Myers but his fastball clocks in about 2 mph quicker than Myers at 95-96. This is pretty much exactly what we needed. I also like short term deals for relievers. Now get one more impact bat.

Right. I would have liked 2+option. Guy has been consistent and durable. I'm honestly surprised he wasn't able to command more on market. Glad to have him and hope we aren't done.

Good move. Lindstrom throws hard and he has closer experience. I'm pleased with this signing.

I don't think the Lefty/Switch bat is coming unless it's an impact hitter(starter) move

I mean our bench is most likley
Gimenez S
Danks/Wise L
Tekotte L
Sanchez R or Sanchez S

MR- RHP Matt Lindstrom

MR- RHP Nate Jones
LR- LHP Jose Quintana/Hector Santiago

It is kind of strange going into ST with no open spots in the bullpen. I am not complaining but it looks like all these spots are almost set in stone.

Carlos Sanchez has zero chance of being a bench player. He's starting somewhere...either Charlotte or Chicago later in the season. Angel Sanchez, being a veteran and a Rule 5 guy, he's making the team.

I'd say Wise is a lock to make the team. Danks and Tekotte will compete for the last spot, but they'll lean toward Danks, because of defense, and well, because his name is Danks.

Like last year's ERA and the age. Keep the experience in the 'pen, even if it means changing the names.

Lindstrom has a great arm. He has a fastball that can touch 100 mph and he has a big breaking slider to go with it. The former Mets farmhand has tried to learn a splitter and will mix those in occasionally. Lindstrom has been given a few chances to be a closer, but can't quite hold down the job. 6/7/11
[fastball(92-98), slider(80-86), splitter(85-89)] This is a year old maybe some of his secondary pitches have improved. We also have Coop.

Ryan is coming off a mediocre year. Doesn;t hit for power.

To those who want Hahn to acquire a left-handed hitter with some power:

1. Who should Hahn target?

2. Who should Hahn trade to acquire this player?

It seems to me that left-handed power is becoming more scarce; those teams that have such a hitter worth acquiring won't trade it for what the Sox can offer, without making it, at best, a lateral move for the Sox.

ZombieRob
01-20-2013, 05:31 PM
Do we really need Leftie power? Can't we get a leftie who hits to all fields and gets on base? Between Dunn Konerko Rios think we have enough power guys.

Hahn seems to be building a team that scores 3 or 4 a game, get the lead and let the pen shut you down.

Brian26

The only thing I can't figure out about Lindstrom (nice arm, signed to a short, affordable contract), is why it took until the third week in January for someone to sign this guy.

Shocked at how positive this thread is for WSI. Lindstorm will get quite the ego stroke if he reads fan forums and comes across this thread.

Whereas most people the Sox acquire probably feel like hanging themselves after the WSI thread.

EDIT: to be perfectly clear, I think this is a good signing too. Go Sox.

Whomever is available. Someone can always be had if the price is right. I'm just saying don't need to set the sights to high. Be happy with a solid leftie hitter. I still think a position player is going to be moved.

Granderson would be nice but at what cost?

31 yr old, 195K, 26HR at home, 17 on Road. Definitely a benefactor of the Bronx.

-10 Runs Saved.

I think in a Sox uni he could hit #2 I like having a Lefty hit two to block the catchers clean view of DeAza. Plus he'll see fastballs.

Anyway I see
.265/.325/.450 35hr/90/10sb/ 160+K

I don't think anyone would object to granderson at all. But I think you're fooling yourself if you think 3 hitter. As much as I would agree with you robin is too pigheaded and stubborn trying to force a jackass, sorry donkey, into that 3 hole. And it might have cost him a playoff opportunity because of it.

Lindstrom on other hand seems to give a solid pen if we can stay healthy. I would love to another starter ready to go for the inevitable Peavy meltdown, but we'll see.

Matt Lindstrom is a great signing. our bullpen was already a strength.

2012 Stats:
Nate Jones: 182 ERA+
Matt Thornton: 126 ERA+
Jesse Crain: 179 ERA+
Donnie Veal: 312 ERA+ (limited time, however)
Lindstrom: 159 ERA+

Really, really, good.

Matt Lindstrom is a great signing. Assuming Reed can mature as a closer, I think our bullpen may be the class of the division.

Lindstrom is a good signing, but he's failed as a closer before, so it will be interesting where the Sox put him.

Could be a great bridge to Thornton and Crane.

Reed can't close several days in a row, if the situation arises.

Agree, I'm just not sure if he's cut out as a setup guy based on his poor closer numbers in Houston and Florida despite his last
two good years of ERA.

I don't think there's any question that the closer role is Reed's to lose, but I do wonder who would be next in line if Reed falters or is hurt.

Based on some situational usage last year, my guess would be Jones, barring a horrific sophomore slump.

Well last year it was a Crain/Thornton shared job depending on who was hitting for the opposing team. I think it would be safe to assume nothing would change.

I actually would like Jones to take that role up-front. But Reed will be given every chance to lose it as you said.

None the less, a very deep bullpen with the only thing lacking is a shut down closer at this point.

He won't see a save situation IMO.

He's a GB guy who throws hard, doesnt walk many, and can get a K. I like him to start innings, or come in looking for the DP
