I don't even know where to begin. I didn't even realize Pagan was still in baseball, and he's getting forty million dollars from the defending champions? Good grief.

Absolutely insane; who were they bidding against? Would anybody in their right mind offer Pagan more than about 2/10?

You must not have watched the playoffs much this year. He made some great plays in the center field. Couldn't buy a hit though.

If Pagan plays like he did, offensively and defensively, during the regular season, it isn't a bad contract.

It's always a mistake to pay a guy based on just postseason performances though. Yet, many GMs seem to make that mistake. I remember Jeff Suppan getting a handsome contract worth way more than he should have made immediately following his good 2006 postseason with the Cardinals. There are other examples too.

After seeing the contracts of Angel Pagan, BJ Upton, and the like...it appears the price of mediocrity in baseball has risen. Suddenly, the Alex Rios contract doesn't appear to be as inflated as it was a couple years ago.
