Their owner was quoted as saying they were going to spend a lot of money and again have one of the highest payrolls in baseball when the off season was done.

It appears he is being true to his word.

Victorino's a good player, but I wonder how well he'll adjust to playing in the American League.

Bill Veeck was right about the high price of mediocrity. That is a lot of cabbage to lay out for a guy who I think was once a pretty damn good player but is on the downside of his career.

This signing sets up a trade for Ellsbury for starting pitching. Possibly the Phillies.

I would have just gone with "Red Sox, Boston."

Nice to see they're replenishing their stock of ridiculously bad contracts only a few months after they unloaded most of them on the Dodgers.

The lengths aren't terrible. If they both bomb next season, another team can absorb the dollars.

I think Napoli is more likely to succeed.
