Mark Buehrle hits 200 innings for 12th straight year.

MB is the only active pitcher in baseball with 12 consecutive years of at least 10 wins (13), 30 starts (31) and 200 innings (202 2/3).

Congratulations, MB! :gulp:

We would be getting ready for the playoffs if he was still with us, still breaks my heart he didn't spend his whole career in a Sox uniform.

There is absolutely no way to know that, as one can't simply transfer his statistics to the White Sox to extrapolate the team's performance. Besides, the Sox could not afford to keep him, nor should they have tried.

I have never bought the argument that they couldn't afford to keep him, as John Danks got a pretty similar deal.

We don't know what will happen 2013-2015, but we do know that Buehrle out-performed Danks for similar money in 2012.

I agree that his performance for this season for superior, but Mark wasn't looking for a one-year deal. It's sad that he's gone, but we can't assume that he would have been as effective were he still in the American League.

I see no reason to think that he would have had a drop-off from past performance if he stayed here.

I was mostly just agreeing about being disappointed he's no longer on the Sox anyway. It's true we can't assume they'd be in the playoffs if he were there.

We can't assume it, but I think it is safe to project that they probably would have won a few more games. In this division, that might have made all the difference.

The lowest WAR of Buehrle's career? 2.

I would rather take a chance with MB on the mound instead of trotting guys like Liriano and Santiago out there in pressure situations.

For what, to lose games 3 to 1 instead of 5 to 1?

Sox hitting is the reason they did not win 90 games this year plus the division.

It hurts so much to read "former White Sox Mark Buehrle." I really wish we could have found a way to keep him.

Thank you! I love it when CRAP like that gets tossed out there. MB didn't help them get to the playoffs in 2009, 2010 or 2011, did he? Not that I hate him, because I don't. Just enough already.

I just picked up a Buehrle bobblehead, mini bobblehead, and jersey t-shirt for $23 at the clearance sale at the Sports Depot.

That doesn't mean he couldn't have helped this year. I sure as hell would have rather paid him than Danks. Yes I know it wasn't in the cards, but considering the late season collapse people are going to play the what if game, why get so mad at them?

Exactly. I agreed with KW's reasoning to give the deal to the younger Danks instead of Buehrle, but now that the 2012 season is over we can see that Buehrle far out-performed Danks to date.

Congrats to Buehrle for keeping his streak alive for the 12th season, that's a fantastic accomplishment.

Yeah, I got the shirsey for $5 today. I figured it was a decent enough purchase--can wear it to bed at least, and the guy's probably going to end up with his number retired. $5 was a bargain considering they'll probably be selling it again at full price in 5-10 years...

It seems all the other former player shirseys were pretty picked over by Sunday (they were 2 for $5); couldn't really find any in my size other than Swisher and Manny.

That's only true if you started watching the games 3 weeks ago.

Seriously. I love Burls, but it was the right move. This team wasn't going to get it done anyway.
