I'm more interested to see if he entertains an offer from the Red Sox to return after Valentine is fired.

Why return to that mess?

(Though the Indians? Not much better.)

Sandy Alomar says Indians told him that Terry Francona will be new manager.

Indians talking four-deal with Terry Francona to be their manager.

Francona is very, very good...he'll turn that situation around.

Interesting to see if Alomar sticks around. No question he's going to be a manager some day; just wonder if he'll take a jump now or wait Francona out.

Besides the money and lack of pressure, I'm not sure why anyone would want the Cleveland job. They aren't even tepid garbage.

A step in the right direction for the Tribe.

Miami will announce next week they've hired Alomar to manage them.

This is what I think, too. It's the only reason they haven't announced Ozzie Guillen's firing. As soon as Sandy signs his contract, Guillen will be gone.

The Red Sox will then hire Ozzie to reverse the Fisk/Youkilis effect.

Apropos of nothing, a teacher at my mom's school graduated HS with him.

Next April, Ozzie will make a speech about how much he hates United States independence, or something to that effect.

Francona can do better. The ownership doesn't give a damn.

He did a very good job in Boston. He did a poor job in Philly. Obviously Boston had a loaded roster but it also had a myriad of diverse personalities which he was able to control for most years. He also had very strong coaching staffs in Boston. We will see how he does w much less talent on a team that will probably not spend big bucks on his staff.

How? Theo isn't the GM.

Dump:

Francona is a sharp baseball man. Highly regarded in the business by different people in different areas. Knows the game, gets along with players...he'll get the best out of the talent Cleveland has (and they have some...)

And in what is generally regarded as a mediocre division it doesn't take that much to change the culture of things.

I don't think most people think of him as a former White Sox minor league manager.

Even if Michael Jordan was the best player he ever coached?
