I have a terrible feeling the Sox will be handing the division directly over to Detroit on Thursday. As is tradition.

Glad to see the win, but c'mon 3 runs?

Yay! Floyd threw a lot of pitches and was out early but the bullpen stepped in and (mostly) did their job. Still left some runners out there, but Alexei and Alex were pretty solid at the plate tonight.

Happy to see a pretty good crowd cheering loudly for Sox! :bandance:

If nothing else this was the best the Sox bullpen has looked in a while. I was on the edge of my seat watching Reed, still don't like him but he did well tonight. 1 back with 5 to go, still within striking distance. Creepy rooting for the Twinkies..... :D:

Moore's been shaky lately (I benched him on my fantasy team)...I'd be more worried about Price on Sunday. I think we can get them both though.

They taunt us.

Reed did throw that slider with some purpose. Makes him a different pitcher. Without it he's a righty Thornton. That RBI by Youk was what they call situational hitting, if you've never seen it before. Lord knows he's the only player we have who can do it.

We're only down a game, which can easily be made up in a 5 game span. However, I'm not sure I want to feel optimistic again as that will just make the potential let down all the more depressing.

I don't understand how we could have possibly won that game with only 25k at the game today. Without a packed house the Sox couldn't have possibly had the "energy, adrenaline, and focus" needed to ever win a game.

And sorry for the lack of teal, I'm colorblind...

+1

Still pissed off that it has come down to this, but after getting reminded of last year's final day drama, I have to hang onto every shred of hope.

Gavin does a five ' n fly, walks 5, and gets the W. Had this game gone like the rest of the last 10 days or so, at least 4 of those walks score and we are on the short end of a 4-3 score. But not this time!

Let's Go Twinkies!!!

Crowd was absolutely great last night. Again, mostly diehards who were with every pitch. When the Twins first went up on Detroit 2-0, as SOON as they posted the score on the RF board, everyone was going nuts. Reminded me very much of a last weekend game I went to in 2008.

Of course, there was a Wave for about 10 minutes in the 7th inning... But, eh, I was over in 155 basically right behind the LF foul pole and even THAT wasn't so bad, at least by me, seemed like people were up for multitasking. Really, one of the better games I have ever been to. Glad they rewarded us with the win.

Some people react badly whenever anything is said about lack of bums on seats and I get that. I think baseball games should affordable to every kid in Chicago. But it can be easy to underestimate what a good crowd can do for players on the field and what an empty stadium can do also. I can accept being beaten. When you're not the best team on the field being beaten carries no shame. I don't think our guys are quitters and I don't think they deserve some of the treatment they get here. We may go out. We may play badly again at the worst time. OR we may start getting breaks and the ball might bounce our way, Detroit might lose again... and again, and we might find ourselves in a close game that can get us into the playoffs. That's when a crowd pulling for you can be the difference.

I woke up for the top of the ninth last night at 4:00 am and I thought Addison Reed looked very calm and very collected. The season's trials, tribulations, and even failures just might prove to be very valuable. The crowd was a big help to him, I'm sure.

Besides the drunken banter, I'm just happy we won a game. We lost the ability to control our own destiny the way we played. Now we just have to put the pressure on Detroit.

FWIW (and I post this every year), "destiny," by definition, cannot be controlled. It is pre-determined or pre-ordained. But anyway, I still believe we can do this. Gotta be within a game of Detroit when we go to Cleveland.

Wait, I really mean that. Is there a 2nd teal for double sarcasm to cancel it out? This is too much to think about while hungover this morning...

It ain't over until it's over.

:yup: This was a game which featured the key elements of good baseball: pitching (Floyd bent but did not break, Crain, Veal, & Reed were all good. Thornton will be excused for his walk) offense (Thanks to Youk, Alex, and Alexei for the 3 runs) and defense (making the plays that had to be made). About the only upsetting play was seeing Alex being doubled off from from first in the 8th but without Alex's bat, we don't win last night so I'll excuse Alex for that mental error.

I am enjoying every minute of this pennant race and it's great to see our Sox still battling. Just a few more hours to go until today's game and my heart is already racing. Keep on winning, White Sox! :bandance:

PS: I forgot to mention earlier how great it was to see Robin smiling and congratulating each player individually as he came back to the dugout after the win last night. Great moments.

Were you wearing your Sirotka jersey? Thought I might have seen you there last night.

We sat in 156. Agreed, good crowd, everybody into the game. I refuse to participate in the wave, but other than that, it was a fun night.

Crain was the unsung hero. Terrific bullpen work overall, but Jesse was especially good.

Yeah, that was me. I'm going to go out on a limb and say if you see someone at Sox Park in a Mike Sirotka jersey, it's either Mike Sirotka himself or me.

My wife and I were in Row 23 in our section, but if you were in 156 that'd put us around 15 or 16 in your section since 155 goes all the way down to the field level.
