Indians Fire Acta With Six Games Remaining (http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8432168/cleveland-indians-fire-manager-manny-acta-6-games-remaining-season)
And it begins. How long until Ozzie Guillen and Bobby Valentine are canned?
Playing Lillibridge at shorstop last night was the final straw.

At least that kid who cried over him will be happy.

Thanks. I needed a good laugh!

I don't really know if Acta is a good manager or not, but he didn't exactly have a stellar ball club to work with.

What a country, wins the series against the Sox and gets canned.

It's funny how quickly these regimes fly by these days. Seems like they just fired Wedge and were hyping up how good of a choice Acta was.

They had a nice run and fell off the table this year. That's a signal to management. I'm not talking about RV, of course.

Bobby V should be gone once the season ends.
Ozzie? I'd say he's 50/50. Who knows what Loria is thinking.
One BIG one I'm curious about: Ron Gardenhire. Here's a link to the ownership giving Gardy and GM Terry Ryan the "vote of confidence" early in the season: http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Twins_owner_has_100_percent_confidence_in_Terry_Ry an_Ron_Gardenhire050712
I really don't know what to make of that. I'm unsure if all "votes of confidence" are made equal, but typically they don't bode well once they occur.

That's what I was thinking. Between Hafner and Sizemore being perpetually injured and their GM continually trading away their best pitchers, he had a ****ty hand dealt to him.

Scoscia seemed untouchable before this season but the Angel's management has to be really disppointed after spending so much $ and finishing third.

I think Valentine quit a long time ago.

Marlins could do worse than Manny Acta.
Oh wait, they already have.
I think both Guillen and Valentine get their walking papers the day after the season ends.

I never have understood the logic of firing a manager with just a few games left in the season. Are teams worried the news would get lost in the shuffle as the playoffs were spinning up?

I think it happens for two reasons:
1. It prevents the normal speculation that ensues as soon as the last out of the season is recorded, and allows everyone to enter the off-season knowing that they'll have a new manager next season.
2. On a more personal note, it affords players, coaches, and other members of the organization close to the manager a chance to say goodbye, as people frequently go their separate ways once the season ends and may otherwise not have a chance to do so.

Bobby V will be gone by the end of next week and right back on the BBTN set to analyze the playoffs.
