I honestly don't think it is going to come down to a game 163, I think the Sox will either win or lose the division in the course of the remaining two weeks.

Forgive me for expecting more from a first-place team, and I'll leave it at that.

Was not aware the coin toss took place. Is this what happened or were the rules changed to best head to head record?

Peavy was bad. Defense was bad. Offense was terrible. Jake obviously didn't have it tonight, but Santana is a terrible pitcher AND didn't pitch well. He gives up eight runs against other teams with that performance. I guess losing two very winnable games to the horse **** Royals is causing our hitters to press.

Peavy was going to have to throw a perfect game tonight to carry the offense.

I guess let's hope he did not stress too much on his arm and is ready to go the next outing when perhaps an offense will show up.

Best case scenario: Tigers continue to flounder, Sox stagger across the finish line.

Worst case scenario: Tigers take over first right at the finish line after Sox led division pretty much all year, thus ripping our spleens out.

Worst case scenario is tie breaker only to have them win and celebrate right in front of us.

That would make me want to punch a couple of walls.

If it ends up us having to play the one game playoff in Detroit, I'd seriously doubt the Sox win that one. That to me is the worst case scenario.

Just like the rainout helped us vs them when we missed Verlander, this rain out is huge once again.

-Rarely teams sweep DHs.
-One of the guys starting tomorrow for Det will have to pitch on 3 days rest next week. Or they will have to use a fill-in starter.

Huge.

The offense is just bad right now.

Our guys always seem to be the ones "trying to do too much" in September. I don't get it.

The Sox just need to ****ing play ball like they have all year. They don't need to do anything special. They don't need any miracles. They have been the best team in the division all summer. It's been a good season, so finish it off for crying out loud. This shouldn't be so damn hard or stressful.

Plus, Scherzer's arm almost fell off last start.

The more I look at this, if we don't win this, the White Sox should not be allowed to suit up next season to play baseball.

Hold on, the Sox do not necessarily need the Tigers to lay an egg this weekend. The regular season doesn't end this Sunday, after all. Let's say that the Sox split the next two games and Detroit takes two of three this weekend against the Twins. In that event, the Sox would still lead the division by one game coming home.

The Sox would then have 10 games left with 7 at home. Of the 10, 6 are against Cleveland. In contrast, Detroit would have 10 games left with 6 on the road. Of the 10, 7 are against Kansas City who is playing well right now. What's more, with their Friday rainout against Detroit, the Tigers will play a doubleheader on Sunday and will have to either start one of the Sunday starters on three days rest next Thursday against K.C or use a spot starter either Sunday or next Thursday.

So, the Sox just need to hang in there. A win tomorrow and at least one Minnesota win in the next 3 days would be huge and would definitely give the Sox some breathing space.

Pretty tough when your #2-6 hitters get no hits or walks. Youk, Dunn and Paulie look like they are limping to the finish line. They need a another dose of geritol or this could get ugly next week.

Paulie has had a tough year after his great start. I think the beaning, the wrist and the concussion have all taken a toll on him. Who would have said with a week and a half to go that Alexei would have as many ribbies as PK with the Tank and Gordo not far behind. The most consistant hitter all year has been Rios, Robin should put him at in the 3rd spot in the lineup followed by Dunn and PK for the rest of the year.

Some of these guys are running on fumes.

The same second half blues every season.

So then our problem from year to year has been overuse? This might be a good point as I have noticed that the white sox have problems with bullpen and hitting come September. I wonder if this is just us or baseball in general in September.

Oh and 12,000!

Guillen:

Since 2003, I'll check again at the end of the season, with the exception I think of one year, the Sox have always had a worse win percentage in the second half as opposed to the first half...and that's true regardless if you break the season up into equal parts or before or after the All Star Break.

Overuse might be part of it but I think JB's point was as he put it (paraphrasing) 'the Sox first 15 guys are usually pretty good, that's why they are usually in the race. What kills them is guys 16-25 on the roster. The drop off is dramatic and that costs them...'

Again JB can clarify if I got it wrong....but I think that's a valid point.

The only exception I can think of was in 2006. I thought the Sox had a good, deep bench that year. It was somewhat misused (out of necessity) by Ozzie but I thought it was a good one.
