Howdy folks...We're going to be driving to tonight's game, from Evanston...want to catch some of the batting practice activity if possible...any suggestions on which route to take, and when we might want to hit the road?

thanks...Go Sox!

Dempster-Edens-Kennedy-Dan Ryan. Hit the road at 3:30 to get there when gates open at 5:40. Inbound Kennedy in the PM rush is a nightmare (reversibles going the other way-could take a hour from the Junction to downtown). You won't see White Sox BP, that is done before the gates open.

I think the best way would be riding shotgun in an Osprey.

If you have to use more conventional transportation take LSD to 18th then head south the 35th.

Lake Shore Drive is under construction. Delays. It also takes longer to get to LSD from Evanston than Evanston to the Junction on the Edens.

But, if you do take LSD, take it to 31st Street, not 18th street. I'm not sure you can access 18th Street from LSD except to go to the Soldier Field parking lots and museum campus (there are train tracks in the way to the west).

You are correct. The 18th LSD exit takes you under LSD to Soldier field w/no access to the South Loop/Near South Side. Take the 31st exit from LSD.

LSD's hell getting through downtown. Edens is hell until you get through the junction. I fear going to weekday night games. Figure 1:30.

It probably depends what part of Evanston you're coming from. I'm near downtown and I always take Sheridan to LSD to 31st. When I lived with my parents in NW Evanston I would take the Edens. Of course, I would usually take the el, from either location, but if timing is important you probably don't want to depend on the el.

Do you have to drive? Purple line express starts at 2:30. I do that and take the metra home.

Find a way to get to Ashland take Ashland south for a while. Take Clybourne to Halsted. Take Halsted south till 35th. Go left. Stadium. Take about hr and 15 to hr and a half.

The Clybourn corridor can be hell, and Halsted is pretty slow, too. LSD can get congested downtown, but if not taking the Edens/Kennedy/Dan Ryan it's probably the quickest route. This route sounds like maybe the worst option.

I go to games from Evanston often.

Public trans: Take metra from Davis or Main St. to Oglivie station, exit down stairs and turn right (West), walk outside, turn right, walk two blocks to Clinton green line stop, take to 35th, walk two blocks to park which is visible.

Driving: unless traffic is real bad, can't beat Chicago av. to south blvd, to Sheridan. Take Sheridan to Devon and keep going straight as it becomes Broadway. Take it to Bryn Mawr or Foster (avoiding evil Sheridan and Hollywood intersection), take LSD south to 55, 55 west to 94, 94 south to 35th or Pershing if you're doing cash parking.

Problem with LSD is there is construction going south and it is hell.

We took it last night to the game and it wasn't so bad, but then again we waited to leave Evanston until 5:30-5:45 so traffic would dissipate.

It only takes me 20-30 minutes to take LSD from Wilson to 55 to 94 to 35th and I do it almost every day. It can be crazy coming from 55 and trying to get off at 35th.
