This thread won't get much action until the 3rd as the Tigers are playing the Sox, but never hurts to be prepared.

Hopefully come the 3rd, we're talking about how Detroit has to pick up six games on the Sox.

Why do we have to play Detroit seven times and Kansas City six times in the next month? Why can't I enjoy one month of relative prosperity absent the risk of downfall and failure?

For the most part, the Indians were viewed as less of a threat than the Tigers. It was assumed they would come down to earth...but no one expected them to crash and burn like they did.

In any case, go Wahoos.

So, the Tigers go on the road briefly, lose three games in Kansas City, come home, sweep the first-place White Sox to tie them in the standings, then lose the next day to Cleveland.

Ain't that a kick in the head.

The White Sox are currently in first place, after losing six straight in Detroit, the last three as part of a 1-5 road trip against contending teams, because they have been more successful than the Tigers against teams with losing records. If they continue to be tonight at home against the Twins, they will be back in first place all by themselves.

There was no Tigers travel involved, though. The catcher who with the run-scoring passed ball and later throwing error that put a runner at third, didn't catch the night before. It wasn't like the Giants playing a day game at Wrigley Field Friday after playing a night game in Houston.

Well, with the way they are playing, no, the wild card isn't likely to come out of the Central.

If both teams get hot, it's still possible. Sox are three back of Baltimore; Detroit is four back.

Detroit leads Cleveland 7-1 in the eighth tonight. Honestly, two out of three was more than you could ask from the woeful Tribe.

The Sox picked up a game over the last three days, so that's a good thing. Detroit starts a 10-game trip Friday in Anaheim. Here are the pitching matchups for that series:

Friday: Scherzer vs. Santana
Saturday: Verlander vs. Weaver
Sunday: Sanchez vs. Wilson

Friday favors the Tigers. Saturday is a matchup between two of the league's best. Sunday favors the Angels.

Looks like Weaver is sitting out with tendinitis.
Angels going with Santana,Wilson and Greinke.

This could be a break for the Sox....Weaver has been struggling a bit lately, while the other three have been good. In his last ten starts Weaver has a 4.24 ERA and has only 5 quality starts.

The Sox are fortunate to be getting help right now. Obviously, our favorite team is not playing good baseball at the moment.

Detroit is at least getting good pitching in its losses (three 3-2 losses this week). That's probably my main concern right now.

Neither the Sox nor the Tigers are hitting much, but Detroit is getting better starts and taxing its bullpen less. The attrition of the long season seems to be bothering the Sox more than the Tigers at this stage.

Upcoming series for Detroit will be very difficult. Though the tigers are at home, both are playing for something and the A's have amazing pitching to shut any offense down.

If the sox finally take care of business we could do a number on them after the series.

After is where we're going to need help from the likes of Minnesota, Cleveland, and Kansas city while taking care of our own. Will be an interesting finish, but we have a decent cushion to take us the rest of the way.

The good news is I have a feeling the sox will have to play well to get into the playoffs do we'll be playing with a good head of steam if we make it and the playoffs are all about momentum.

As long as the Sox keep winning, it does not matter what they do.

Pay attention to the Rays. Their elimination number is 11 currently and they're down to the Red Sox. If they are out of it by next week, we could be facing a completely different dynamic.
