The Sox just finished a homestand winning all six games and in five of those, fell behind in the top of the 1st inning. How many of those would they have won in past years??

Maybe 1 or 2.

36 of the 71 victories are come from behind.

In 2012 the Sox have come from behind 36 times and had 7 walk-off wins against 6 walk-off losses. In all of 2011 they came from behind 25 times and had only 5 walk-off wins against 9 walk-off losses.

Maybe what is most telling is their record when behind at the start of a given inning. For 2012:

Inning Record
+------+---------------+
2 11-12 .478
3 13-21 .382
4 13-31 .295
5 15-32 .319
6 13-37 .260
7 7-40 .149
8 2-44 .043
9 3-47 .060

For 2011:

Inning Record
+------+---------------+
2 8-30 .211
3 11-41 .212
4 13-40 .245
5 13-54 .194
6 11-50 .180
7 9-65 .122
8 6-66 .083
9 2-65 .030

What this tells me is that the Sox haven't given up as easily this year when falling behind early and that even if they're behind later in the game they sometimes manage to pull out a win.

There is definitely a different feel in the ballpark this year when the Sox fall behind early. Take Saturday night for instance. Last season if the opposition hit a three-run HR in the top of the first inning, the air would come right out of the balloon. Chances are the game would be over. I don't think anybody felt that way Saturday. There was more a feeling of, "The Sox will be fine if they can just get out of this damn inning." Indeed, they got out of the inning with no further damage, and they came back and won.
