Keep up on rotoworld.com.

Happened:
Victorino to LAD

Supposedly:
Dempster to LA
Pence to SF
Carlos Lee to somewhere, or he's getting waived

DonnieDarko

Pretty sure that Pence to the Giants is a done deal...

I think he's done too. Of course I thought he was done prior to the Liriano deal! If he makes a move, I think it will be for a position player off the bench. The bullpen seems set for now.

I think the Wild Card is part of it however I think that the CBA is the major factor because teams who trade players midseason won't get much in return like they've gotten in years past.

Bowden said earlier in the ESPN deadline chat that Twitter is making deals much harder, because info leaks before deals have a chance to fall apart in the final stages.

I also think the CBA is working against trades, not for it. Teams who used to say "well lets gamble and if it doesn't work, we get a prospect back via compensation" no longer have that option.

Lee in Miami with that ballpark was a bad idea. Glad Luhnow fleeced them out of Matt Rodriguez, was worth eating a few months of Lee's pre-FA contract.

Also, I have to wonder if Lee thinks getting dumped twice in a month could have an effect on his FA value next year, as low as it is.

BTW - The Marlins aren't rebuilding. They just moved a few high priced/low performing assets because Loria overextended himself in the winter.

I do wonder if they move the fences in next year or rework the roster into a speed/doubles lineup that would play better at that park.

Yeah, but it'd be nice to have someone on the bench that can actually hit a baseball. Lee may not what he used to be, but compared to the rest of the guys we have on the bench he's Pujols.

Only if he's replacing Hudson. We need a backup MI.Dallas McPherson is not a middle infielder. He's not even a particularly good corner infielder.

This is where the farm system's lack of depth really shows up. The Sox have had a combination of success and luck in terms of calling up pitchers, but there really isn't much in the way of major league ready offense on the farm, especially infielders. Tyler Saladino may be the closest to ready, and it's not lik he's been tearing the cover off the ball in the minors.

Chez

Phillies DFA'd Mike Fontenot. He can play three infield positions which would allow you to jettison both Hudson and Olmedo and bring up or acquire a player with some pop (e.g. McPherson, D. Johnson). Of course there are many Mike Fontenot like players out there. But it would be nice to have one reserve infielder who can play 2B, SS and 3B rather than covering three positions with two players.

I'd love to see us go "all in" again and pick up his 97 million contract. Coop would fix him and then our rotation would be set. Only half joking so no teal.

But seriously a team like Detroit who already has so much put into this season has to be tempted by this no? Of course he'd have to pass through the NL first.

Good point, he's just had tough luck getting wins.

He's making $21.5 million this season, then $25 million in each of the next four seasons. At age 37 for the 2016 season, he has a $27.5 million vesting option (200 IP in 2015 or 400+ IP in 2014-15); and the buyout is $12.5 million.

While you're correct that his numbers are close to his career numbers, that's a hell of a lot of money for a pitcher in his mid-30s who only has a slightly better than average ERA in the NL.

We just need a middle infielder who can catch the ball. All we have to do is get through August, because we have a good prospect in the minors who we don't want to call up until the open call ups in September.
And then we need a hitter, regardless of position.
