Nice pickups.

Sanchez and Infante for Jacob Turner, basically.

Upgrade at SP and 2B for this season.

You knew Detroit was going to do something. Infante is a very nice upgrade for their infield. Anibal Sanchez has thrown a no hitter before, but is real inconsistent, so he's a complete wild card.

Certainly makes the Tigers better able to compete with us....

Seriously, the kitties gave up thier best pitching prospect in Turner, a Top 20 MLB pospect, a stiff price to pay.

Tigers and Marlins also swap compensation draft picks. First time in baseball history picks have been traded...

Of course the fact that the Tigers had a pick to trade means MLB's doing it wrong...

This. That was designed to help the lower drawing/"poor" teams. Detroit is out drawing A majority of major league teams right now and signed fielder to an INSANE contract...

Sanchez is a very good pitcher who knows how to work hitters. He is a huge upgrade over Turner. Sanchez hasn't been as impressive this year as he has been in the past. Going to a new league where the hitters haven't seen him could make a difference. He is going to be a free agant at the end of the season, so he has something to play for. Still, Turner could have a better time of it in the National League and, especially if Sanchez doesn't adjust well to the Tigers, fans could look at him in the same way many White Sox fans look at Daniel Hudson.

Kenny = moves (Youk, Myers)

Dombrowski = counter move

Ball's in Kenny's court...does he have another move in him?

And if so, does he look for a hitter or a starting pitcher (I think he's done trying to work on the bullpen...)

I was wondering when this was going to happen.

If there's a starting pitcher, that's our only thin area. Otherwise, this roster is mostly set for the year.

In an interview with Mark Gonzales and other reporters before the game today, KW said there's no point in trading for a marginal SP, if they're after one they'd go for a top guy. Hopes to get Danks back sometime in August.

Spivak:

Well history shows Kenny always plays things close to the vest so he was not going to say anything specific or revealing.

Gonzo told me tonight he thinks Kenny makes another deal.

We'll see.

Lots of talk around these parts for Greinke, but I wonder about Josh Johnson (good pitcher when healthy, though he is seldom is); though signed at $13.75 million for this season and next, that might be doubtful for the Sox.

Half a season of Sanchez over 7 from Turner? I like this deal.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe they just don't like Turner? Otherwise this on paper is a terrible trade.

Going to a new league where the hitters haven't seen him could make a difference.

But I have been assured on these boards that pitchers coming over from the NL will just get destroyed in the AL.

Balke:

The Tigers owner wants to win a World Series before he dies. (He's 83) Also money is no object in that quest.

So he lives in the here and now as it were.

As long as he's alive Detroit will be aggresive in trying to win now.

Sanchez? Ok; but I thought they would wind up with either Dempster or Garza. If Sanchez is the only addition Detroit makes to its rotation, then I'm relieved.

Everyone seems to say Turner is their best pitching prospect. I'm fine with DET giving that up.

He was their consensus top prospect
