The #WhiteSox placed RHP Gavin Floyd on the 15-day DL (retroactive to July 8) with right elbow tendinitis

In a corresponding move, the #WhiteSox returned RHP Philip Humber from his rehab assignment @BhamBarons & reinstated him from the DL

Maybe this will be good for Gavin...

Sigh. Well, at least we are getting Humber back. Floyd will have only missed one start and gotten pushed back in another, should he return on the 23rd when eligible. I just hope that when Gavin comes back, the rest of the rotation can stay healthy for the entire year.

Good grief! I remember when Danks went to the DL it wasn't supposed to be a big deal either.

Yea and Crain just needed a couple days off.

This has been the most injury filled season for pitching the Sox have had since 2001. Very un-Sox like as we usually lead MLB in least amount of DL time. It's truly remarkable how well we have done despite all the down time to key pitchers.

Danks' injury is in his shoulder, while Floyd's is in his forearm. Big difference.

Foulke:

Remember though the stretch in the second half of 2010 where seemingly everyone in the bullpen went on the DL. It badly hurt down the stretch.

The Sox seem to have avoided the injury bug more than other teams but when it hits them it really causes issues doesn't it? 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007 (I know the Sox didn't have a lot of talent to start with but when they kept getting guys hurt like Erstadt and others that didn't help matters...) 2010 and now this.

That's six seasons in the last 13 where a significant impact has taken place because of injuries to the wrong guys.

This is becoming an epidemic of enormous proportions.
This hurts as Floyd has turned it around after being a batting practice pitcher for a few months.

So who starts tomorrow's game? Where is Brian Bruney? I haven't heard anything about his status since he went on the DL when the Sox were in New York.

Yeah, though still nothing compared to what the Padres are going through. They just brought up Kip Wells a few weeks back. He was next in line after the esteemed Eric Stults when on the DL.

Pedro Hernandez will start.

Bruney--not sure.

I saw Bruney in the dugout during the KC series.

So now do we have a total of 2 veterans on our entire pitching staff (Thornton and Peavy)?

Depends on your definition of "veteran" doesn't it? Sale for example is now into his third year in the majors for example.

Gonzo quotes Bruney tonight as saying the hip still bothers him on his follow through when he twists his body...no idea when he'll be back.
