Tendon injuries are common among steroid users. The juice builds up the muscle faster than the tendons and ligaments can keep up. As a result, there is more stress on the tendon and ligament than can be tolerated.

I wonder too how much of this is an extension of his contract issues (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/redsox/story/2012-07-04/david-ortiz-red-sox-offseason-humiliation/56023464/1) with the Sawx.

I was going to make a joke about how "ligament injury" must be what they're calling steroid abuse nowadays, but you had to go and ruin that with facts.

Big Papi placed on the 15-day DL. Mauro Gomez called up, who can play first and third base.
