So how long is it going to be until the game actually starts? I wonder if I have time for a nap. At least they're not starting it super late.

This Negro Leagues segment is super interesting. Hank Aaron is one of my favorite players of all time.

Nice round of applause of Chipper Jones. When they introduced Terry Collins it is amazing how much better the Mets road uniform looks this year as opposed to last.

GoGoCrede

It's really awkward when some players get more applause than others. :?: It's like those In Memoriam segments at the Oscars. Awkward as hell.

Ron Washington, like Robinson Cano also chose the minimum number of Royals for his roster, but was not booed vehemently.

Buncha baseball scholars out there in the stands in KC.

Not usually, but I guess it kind of makes sense. If you use up all of your starters early and the game goes to extras, you don't have anyone to go 2-3 innings.

Hate to burst all of your bubbles, but the White Sox (Konerko, Peavy and Dunn specifically - and the team) got love in the top of the second inning. Understandably, it's difficult to get in everything you want to say when guys are having 1 and 2 pitch ABs and there's a lot of guys to talk about. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I agree to a certain extent, but they have SO MUCH information on these guys that I understand that they have to fit things in at random times instead of being able to talk about EVERYONE at the time they play. I mean, Dickey and Trout are FAR bigger stories this year and Paulie happened to hit during the inning they both appeared in. I'm just glad they fit in some time earlier in the game to talk about the Sox and Konerko, Dunn, and Peavy.

Had Bozo gone with Sale as opposed to Verlander to start the game, the result of the first inning likely would've been completely different than a five-spot.

Meanwhile, Dunn sits on the bench as the only unused AL position player. No appearance out of the bullpen from Peavy, either. Way to go, Bozo!

I remember reading that the Sox asked Washington that Sale only go one inning, effectively taking him out of consideration to start tonight as starters typically got at least 2 if not 3 innings (tonight being an obvious exception).

Also, aren't managers required to designate one pitcher that can only be used if the game goes extras? Maybe that was Peavy tonight...

Not everything has to be a conspiracy.

I don't have a problem with Peavy not pitching, especially since he was a late addition.

But there's no excuse for Dunn not getting an at-bat in the ninth inning. Mike Napoli getting a pair of at-bats was also a joke.

Too bad that Adam Dunn didn't get an AB,I thought he could have batted for Weiters in the 9th,but Washington was worried about the top of the 10th.

Mauer was in the game at first base. If Dunn had pinch-hit for Weiters and the AL had scored eight and only eight runs to tie the game, Dunn could have gone in to play first with Mauer going beind the plate. Maybe Washington believed that Dunn didn't belong on the AL All-Star team.

The reality is, Washington disrespected Dunn big-time for the second time in a week, the first being when he intentionally walked Youkilis in a tie game with Dunn on deck.

Not that it made a difference in the outcome.

The funny thing is, San Francisco baseball writers had been writing about how Sandoval didn't belong in the game and how Cain shouldn't be starting. Sandoval could have been the MVP (Cabrera probably deserved it more and having played in KC didn't hurt). Dickey might not have struggled in his inning, by tonight's NL mound standards, if he had started.

I would have liked to have seen Konerko's foul ball stay fair, but in the end being grazed by a knuckleball isn't such a bad outcome. And I was happy to see Sale only threw 13 pitches. Should have been less, but Kinsler didn't seem very excited about throwing out Chipper Jones.

If the White Sox get to the World Series this year, maybe this will give them a chance to win it at home. If the Yankees or Rangers get the World Series (and the list doesn't stop there), I'll be glad that the NL has the homefield advantage. The Yankees would have to be playing for the Cubs for me to cheer for the Yankees in the World Series.

Depends on what you want to use as a measuring stick. The NL has won 3 of the past 4 WS titles(and 4 of 6), and the last 3 AS games, where the AL has won the interleague series the past 9 years. You can really use either set of statistics to prove one way or the other.

Except that in-season interleague is hundreds of games every year whereas the All-Star game and World Series from the past few years might be 20-30 games total.

You'd have to be living in a pretty nonsensical dream world to really believe the NL is anywhere close to the AL.

Does he think the fans enjoyed watching a crap game for eight innings because he decided to pitch batting practice? Maybe it's stupid the game decides home field in the world series, but it does.

Agreed. However this always brings up a big question to me. I've never understood why in baseball, which league is better is such a HUGE deal to each league's fans(I could understand when the two were actually separate entities, but they've basically been one league for 20 years now). You don't see that in the NFL, or any other American league for that matter. Closest thing i can think of is the SEC's religious following.

I could care less. I'm a Sox fan first and foremost and I follow the Nationals somewhat since I'm in the DC area. But I don't give a squat who's better at what. The leagues are basically mixed now. The all-star game is never a valid barometer because not every star player gets selected or plays. What I go by are the WS titles. The best from each league facing off and right now the NL has the upper hand. But it really doesn't matter.

Well, I don't think it's that huge of a deal, though, I think lately most NL fans have developed some kind of inferiority complex about how completely awful the NL is compared to the AL because they still play baseball the "right" way (like we all want to watch pitchers bat .090!!! Hurray!).

As a fan of an American League team it really doesn't matter to me, I don't really ever think of it much. But come on, clearly, you could take 5-6 teams out of the AL and move them to the NL and they'd be prohibitive favorites to win the league. There's maybe 1 NL team you could move to the AL that would even have a chance at the playoffs. Maybe.

Yeah, when I used to live in Central Illinois, most the folks down there are Cubs or Cardinal fans and that was generally the vibe I got from them. Again, though, I don't really care, it's not really a matter of opinion, it's a fact that the American League is soundly better than the N.L. Regardless of this whole home field advantage b.s. that Selig tossed in, I simply don't think a great majority of the players take the game as seriously as you and others think they should. Even that Chipper Jones speech they staged before the beginning of the game looked hokey.

"This time, it counts." Not to the players, I think.

I have no problem with what Verlander said. I have no problem with players who are All Stars but treat the even like a three-day vacation. I have no problem with guys who bow out of playing or who simply get there and don't want to.
