AKA the one night a year I willingly put up with Berman. I think Beltran wins it.

How is Matt Kemp in it over Dunn?

What's with the sour look on Fielder's face?

I'd love to see McCutchen win because I really like him as a player and he's a Pirate.

Go Cutch!

I've always wanted to be one of the folks in the outfield during this event. Too bad I'm too old for it now though.

Whoever is doing the graphics for the broadcast is making some nice visualizations. I like watching the tracker after a batter finishes.

You lasted longer than me. Chris Berman is just so awful.

I always wondered how those lucky kids got chosen for the outfield. Are they the players' kids?

Does anyone know why Cano was booed so bad other than being a Yankee?

Maybe that's just it. Bad memories of Chambliss' pennant-clinching homer must still linger there.

I'm literally at the point where I won't watch anything hosted by Berman. Too bad, the Home Run Derby is fun otherwise.

I'm at (you guessed it) work again so I can't watch. But meh, the Derby is always so mind-numbingly boring and could be shortened by at least an hour. I want to watch the Celeb softball game, that's always a good laugh.

Big fan of Joey Bats and was glad to see him rebound after last year's letdown.

I an currently juggling three jobs. They all have to do with research and/or reference help. One of them is pretty much them paying me to sit here and surf the net while waiting for students to ask for research help, which is why I'm on WSI 24/7. I can't complain. :gulp:

I was thinking of using my two-week trial of MLB.TV for this, but meh. Might as well wait for the playoffs in case the Sox are in it. I don't need to assail my ears with Berman's screeching.

ALSO, for those watching, are they using that stripe thing to follow the path of the ball, which is always somehow off? Lulz, I kind of wish I could see that.

This event is a flop and people only go because they couldn't get tix for the ASG?

I usually don't see many empty seats at this event.

Back to the Derby, Kemp got only one homer in my simulation earlier today.

Well I guess that answers why Cano was booed during the intro. The Royals fans think Butler was snubbed.

I'm seeing empty seats behind home plate. Why?

Seeing as how the cheap seats upstairs were 200$ seats behind the plate were probably 1000$+

That or they were given to sponsors who could care less.

They booed Cano heavily throughout his turn and continue to chant Billy Butler's name since they clearly think he should have been in the Derby instead. He laid a goose egg.

Heh. That would be pretty interesting if I cared at all about those two.

Can we just get the guy from Nathan's to announce a MLB rib eating contest instead of Berman making noises into the mic for 3 hours?

Berman referencing a hit song from 1998 pretty much sums up his relevence in sports.

Before he corrected himself, Berman also said the Royals won the World Series in 1981.

I know Chris, it isn't the Red Sox or Yankees, so who gives a bleep, right?

Yup, time to get the wheel chair out for Blowhard Berman... Loved the bit where Brett gave him a geography lesson.. No Chris, he hit it towards St. Louis... Wichita is the other way.. But what do you expect from Beantown Berman.. If it aint from NE south to Philly (95 corridor) he's lost on the map..

Yes, I took such great joy watching Cano 0-fer. Missing that short bird perch in right, I guess...

I thought it was funny that they were cheering REALLY loudly every time he missed. The announcers(and twitter as well) was full of reports that Cano was taking the abuse "very hard" and were disappointed in the crowd for doing it. Really? The guy plays in a stadium where people have been known to throw batteries at the opposition, and people cheering when he does poorly bothers him?

I thought it was good natured ribbing, but i guess cano just has thin skin.

EDIT: Also, the EXACT SAME THING happened to Fielder last year when he didn't pick Upton for the HR derby in AZ, yet there was no mention of it(other than in passing) during the home run derby. Was ESPN disappointed when it happened last year too? Didn't seem to bother Prince last year(in fact, he relished it, IMO)

I thought it was great. And appeared very light-hearted as far as booing and cheering for failure goes.

Reminds me of The Simpsons baseball episode when Bart and Lisa taunt Darryl Strawberry and a single tear runs down his cheek.

:whiner: You're a pro, Robbie. Start acting like one.

Could you imagine if AJ acted that way? He gets booed in places he's never played before or ran over anyone in.

One more than me. I can't even watch ESPN's NFL preview show because of him. College Gameday's a staple in this house. Maybe Berman should take some lessons from Fowler.

This type of crap happens every year. In 2008 or so, people were harassing Papelbon's pregnant wife, so much so that she was afraid to even take part in the parade. Ridiculous.
