The worst news possible. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic just spoke with Kirk Gibson (https://twitter.com/#!/nickpiecoro), and he says that Hudson has a torn UCL. Hudsonís agent says heís going to get a second opinion, but thatís usually a one-way ticket to Tommy John surgery.

It wasn't just last night. His ERA is over 7 and has been above 5 almost the entire season.

He really hasn't been a consistently good pitcher since the middle of last September. He has had a few gutsy performances. He beat Texas in interleague play this year, but was hit very hard in losses to Seattle and Oakland. He couldn't get out of the second inning in Oakland. He only retired five hitters and allowed nine to reach base, six of them scoring. A poor start in Oakland was where his White Sox career ended, with the Whtie Sox trying to hold on to first place in late July, toughing it out the day after Garcia got knocked out early in a blowout.

Wasn't this guy part of one of the trades that Dr. Phil Rogers would never stop talking about?

Unfortunate for Hudson. Their starting rotation was really promising before the start of the season. However, with Kennedy coming back to Earth this year and the loss of Hudson, it's a big blow. He'll get the surgery and hopefully with rehab he'll be back and healthy in late '13 and 2014.

Well, that probably explains why he's sucked so far this season.
