News: The White Sox signed starting pitcher Kip Wells (http://roadkill123.baseball.cbssports.com/players/playerpage/146207/kip-wells) to a minor league deal on Friday, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Wells last pitched in the majors in 2009, when he went 2-5 with a 5.33 ERA for the Nationals and Reds. He pitched for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in 2010 and did not play for a professional team last season.

The Knights must be really desperate for pitching

All he does is take a roster space.

Too bad he never learned how to pitch. This is an arm that has disappointed nearly every team he has played for, including this one.

They need to bring back Josh Fogg, too.

Add Ryan Bukvich and you've got the Four Horsemen.

Apparently Wells had a workout for the Mets a few weeks back and was hitting 93 on the gun so... OK.

You might as well pick Rick White and go for the Fab Five. I hated seeing him and his 6.61 ERA coming out of the pen.

Wasn't Kip the starting pitcher who did such a stellar job in 2000 in that Monday night game against Cleveland after the Sox came off the road trip where they swept Cleveland and the Yankees? That was an electric night to remember.

Yes. I was there. The spontaneous standing ovation as the guys ran on to the field is probably still my favorite in-person Sox memory.

would this make him the first guy up if someone get hurt or sucks?

I wondered aloud today who that guy is otherwise...

OMG,there's a name from the past. I had my picture taken with him at SoxFest 2002. I was wandering around the fest, recognized him and asked for a picture. I was going through old SoxFest pictures at the end of January and ran across our picture. He was one tall dude!

According to his Baseball Reference page (http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=honel-001kri), Honel never made it higher than Birmingham in the Sox organization and spent his last year in professional baseball in 2008 with the AA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. As of last season, he was still pitching, but in the North American League for the Maui Na Koa Ikaika. :?: Who even knew they had a baseball team in Maui?!

IIRC, the Sox had a minor league affiliate somewhere on the Hawaiian islands back in the 80's

Kip was a blue chip prospect and always had a great arm. I really thought he was going to develop into a front line starter when he came up in 1999. He never could quite turn the corner and became more of a #5 rotation guy for the bulk of his big league career. This is probably a depth signing/AAA roster filler move. It never hurts to have a few vets on the farm.

As long as Kenny doesn't try to bring back Cliff Politte, David Aardsma or Dustin Hermanson; I'm cool.

Are there any free agent pitchers from the 1990s Indians teams available?

What's Joe Mesa up to these days? I feel like he was still pitching somewhat recently and could be an option.

I for one would like to slam the door on the Danny Wright experience too.

Was it Kip Wells who came out of the bullpen in that 2001 game against the Cubs that Carlos Lee ended with a grand slam?

Yeah, in that case I'd probably also think they'd consider sending Stewart to AAA to stretch out.

Anderson signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers last winter, and was released early in the spring. Last week, he signed a minor league contract with the Rockies. He has yet to appear in a game.
