Per the AP, through a breaking news push notification on my iPhone, the Los Angeles Dodgers will be sold to a group that includes Magic Johnson.

This is not only great for the Dodgers, but great for Los Angeles. Magic has done pretty well in his post-NBA life, and I think the Dodgers will quickly turn into a top organization.

Actually Magic "heads-up" the group but how much he's personally invested or how much actual say he'll have in things, I don't know.

According to the AP brief, Stan Kasten (former Braves, Nats exec) is also part of the group. If he's not overseeing operations, then somebody in high regard will be doing so.

It's good to see the Dodgers in proper hands. Dodger Stadium is still one of the best places to watch a game.

Imagine NBA legend Magic Johnson one day holding the Commissioner's Trophy. It'd be like watching Wayne Gretzky parading with the Lombardi Trophy.

So, even if I had won last night's Mega Millions jackpot, I would not have been in the running. Even if I win Friday's drawing, I would get laughed at......

Why would I do that to myself? Might as well flush the $$$ down the toilet.

Or, I would buy them and trade Brandon McCarthy back to the Sox for future consideration.

I read earlier that the 2nd highest bid was around $1 billion or 1.1 billion. What prompted Magic's group to raise their bid by 25% and essentially double the other highest bid by going up to $2 million?

In other words, did they just overpay by almost a billion dollars by not going to auction?

Totally agree. My favorite NL team is the Dodgers so I am :bandance:today.

A bit of a local tie-in, looks like the controlling owner of the Dodgers when all the dust settles will be a local guy, Mark Walter who is CEO of the Guggenheim Partners, HQ'd in the Loop.

If the Angels can get $150 MM a year for broadcasting, how much can the Dodgers fetch? That's the real story behind this massive bid.

Fox Sports deal could be worth three times what the Dodgers’ new owners paid for the team and almost 20 times the value of the Dodgers’ current television contract.

This is why they can afford to take on all of those contracts. Hell, I think if Crawford returns to 70% form, they've won the deal. I think Gonzalez will be fine and return to his career slants. His homers may stay flat, but the doubles will rise.
