Sooooo we're in the running for Mike Gonzalez and Arthur Rhodes? What? Why?
We were also in the running for Eric Chavez before the Yanks got him? What? Why?
What the hell is going on in KW's mind?

isn't it obvious? These are all players he really really wanted in 2004.

I understand the need to roster fill with washed up vets when you don't have or don't want to put minor leaguers in those spots, but I don't think we're in that situation, are we?

What the **** is this? Is this for real? If it is what the hell is going on in Kenny's brain?!

Washed up veteran relievers sell tickets.

I think it means KW is shopping either Matt Thornton or Will Ohman. Thornton makes $6 million and Ohman makes $2 million. Both Gonzalez and Rhodes would be far cheaper than either of those two.

Ha ha, the irony of this post in that one of the washed up veterans that CLEAR IDIOT Kenny Williams didn't get ended up signing with the most successful team in the league who is one of the 2-3 favorites to win the World Series. Its delicious.

Chavez didn't have a place on this team, but I see nothing wrong with adding Gonzalez or Rhodes if the price is cheap. You go through lots of bullpen arms over the course of a season, having another option that isn't breaking the bank isn't a bad thing.

Gonzalez and Rhodes consideration is obvious to me. Thornton starts the season as closer. Once they feel Reed is ready they trade or cut Ohman or Gonzalez/Rhodes.

Actually I think he would have been a pretty good fit. A bench with Fukudome as your 4th OF, Lillibridge as your backup everything, Flowers, and then Chavez who can play 3B and 1B. That would have been nice. I'm not sold that Lillibridge can play a decent 3B, and there are no other good options.

Rhodes/Gonzalez sound like trade bait to me. Sign and move after 2-3 months to a contender. Veal, Stults, Leesman, and Septimo are not exactly breaking out of the minors right now. I wouldn't mind either of them so long as it isn't a ton of money.

Obviously so far none of the kids and minor league retreads has looked like they're ready for a bullpen spot. Except maybe Santiago.

Not sure about Rhodes, but Gonzalez is still a good reliever, but Boras has priced him out of the reach of most teams during FA.

This is the kind of pick-up I've been hoping Kenny will do, inexpensive late FA pickups that can really help the club.

Don't know about you, but I'd much rather see Mike Gonzalez pitching in the 7th or 8th with the game on the line than Will Ohman.

Imagine the outcry if Ozzie did such a thing.

Already giving up on Zach Stewart and Dylan Axelrod after 5 Spring Training games? It's always tough to evaluate pitching in Arizona. Let's see what happens in the next couple weeks with the relievers. There are plenty of games left before April 6th. Santiago has stepped up and hopefully, someone else will too. By the way, I completely agree about your point on the inexpensive late FA pickups. Kenny has a knack for finding value with those types of players. Esteban Loaiza was probably his best Spring Training signing during his tenure.

Is this really a surprise to anyone? The Sox are loaded with expensive, bad contracts and they have produced almost nothing from their farm system for years.

I'm not surprised that KW is going through the scrap heap for roster candidates.
