A.J. Burnett takes a ball to the face during a bunting drill and breaks his right orbital bone. Surgery tomorrow in Pittsburgh. No timetable on how long he will be out.

Maybe I shouldn't, but I feel really bad for AJ Burnett...he gets traded to the Pirates and then promptly breaks his eye socket. :o:

2-3 month recovery

At least the Yankees are paying for most of that

Happened to me in Little League when I was sliding into 2nd base and the throw from the left fielder bounced up and nailed me right in the eye. Not a good experience. I was throwing up blood and ended up in the hospital overnight. I was seeing double for several days.

Well, those are only the BP jerseys so they won't see any time on the field during a game in the regular season. For what it's worth, I don't mind them. I kind of like the idea of a team's secondary color being the primary color on a BP jersey.

Lip - Have you ever been to Boston????? ( I suspect not )

Historically Chicago has gone well against Boston in playoff matches so I do not understand the hate.

Fens, nothing personal, but you should probably already know the apathy (and in some cases hatred) of the Carmine Hose on this board.

I don't understand where the hate comes from as since 1901 when have the Red Sox ever really hurt the White Sox head to head? In 1967 Chicago blew the pennant and allowed Boston a chance but it wasn't head to head. 2005 certainly worked out well.

I can understand White Sox hate towards the Yankees as the White Sox were one of the great teams of the 50's with very little to show for it.

Yes some of our fans are idiots but when you have one of the largest fanbases in MLB the idiots get magnified.

Your last point is the right one. Boston has one of the most obnoxious, self-entitled fanbases in all of sports.

This and they are CONSTANTLY glorified in the national media. There are some very smart Red Sox fans and up until 2004 I didn't mind them but once they became "the Nation" (and I know that you will quickly point out that a lot of long time Red Sox fans hate the Red Sox Nation folks too but the fact is that at least here in Chicago and nation wide the long time Red Sox fans are seemingly in the minority) they became incredibly obnoxious. I went to school in New York in 2005 and during the ALDS I was talking to a Red Sox fan as we were watching the game and this was right before game 3, he said "Whatever, we're only worried about the Yankees." I pointed out that they should be worried about the White Sox cuz odds are they weren't going to get a chance to play the Yankees.

At least Yankees' fans arrogance comes from somewhere. Unquestionably, the Yankees are the most successful franchise in MLB; 27 world series titles; that's about 1 in 4 of all World Series played. And, the Yankees play in New York, so the arrogance of being a Yankees fan goes along with living in the biggest city in the country. The arrogance of Red Sox fans seems hollow in comparison, and that sense of entitlement after they won one title (I haven't noticed that much of a difference post-2007 as opposed to post-2004) seems only to have occurred recently. Beyond that, I don't know of any other fanbase more full of obnoxious bandwagoners who have no connection with the team's city (maybe the Cubs are a parallel there); and there are 9 metro areas with more people.

It's sort of a perfect storm, Fens. When you add an inferiority complex toward the Yanks+ESPN (and their clout)+two recent titles (and the arrogance that comes with it)+increase in national profile due to ESPN=what we have now with Red Sox Nation.
