I like quite a few players...Longoria is definitely up there for me, but as the Giants have been my NL favorite since I was a kid, I also like Lincecum and Posey. I also really like(d) Braun, but we'll see what happens there.

I'm sure more will come to me later. You guys have anyone? Would you buy a t shirt/jersey of them, or do you restrict that to Sox players?

For players with no connection to the White Sox, mine is Curtis Granderson. Aside from being a really good player, he seems like a solid citizen and great ambassador for the game.

I've always been a huge fan of Michael Young. Classy guy and a tremendous clutch hitter. Always felt that he has been underrated in his career because of the market he played in.

EDIT: To answer your question SephClone, I limit myself to only White Sox shirts/jerseys. As much as I like Young, I could never bring myself to wear a Rangers shirt or any other MLB team. It just feels wrong somehow but that is a personal preference.

I have at least 2
Ryan Braun
Justin Verlander
Both very good on and off the field PS Braun still hasn't been found guilty

I'll have to find a way to afford MLB.tv again, as I've had it since I was a sophomore in college, and that was 8 years ago. I think I'll watch the NL East quite a bit this year.

Yeah, I'll second Curtis Granderson.

A native Chicagoan who'd I'd love to see play for the Sox someday. Also, apparently a stand-up guy. There's the whole story about the friendship he initiated with the family of a deceased fan of his.

Too bad he's a Yankee.

Yeah, Brian Bluhm. He was killed in the VT tragedy in 2007. He was a fan of Granderson's from the day he was drafted.

I used to joke with my wife that I had an inter-racial man-crush on him. He is a special guy.

Buehrle and Konerko are two of my favorite non Tigers.

I've actually grown to appreciate Jeter over the years. Someone once relayed a story about running into him at a gym somewere in Northern Michigan. The guy had a sweatshirt on from his college, a mid level school like Saginaw Valley, Michigan Tech, Western Michigan, etc. He starts talking to the guy about their coach, their recruiting class, he knew all about it. Genuine sports fan.

Kemp is a good but for some reason I've seen him as lazy in the past
Clayton Kershaw who I've seen pitch since Low A ball
James Shields
Trevor Cahill
David Price
Chipper Jones
Nick Swisher

I don't like Justin Verlander but he is amazing to watch
I think someone like an Andrew McCuthcen would be on a lot of lists if he wasn't in Pittsburgh.
Troy Tulo is also an amazing player who I'd like to see more of.

Nick Swisher was likeable when he played for the A's, although fans were vocal about hating his game in his last season, making it easy for Billy Beane to jettison him. Swisher did charity work in the community and was a popular character. He tried to take that with him when he left Oakland, but his game and demeanor as a teammate prevented it from taking hold in Chicago. I have no idea if he has ever caught on in New York. He certainly isn't a go-to guy as he needed to be in Oakland and was expected to be in Chicago, so that might help.

I was told that Curtis Granderson grew up an Atlanta Braves fan, but my source might be confusing him with another player who grew up in White Sox territory.

Saying my favorite non-White Sox player is Mark Buehrle would violate the spirit of the question, as accurate as it may be. A couple of years ago, Buster Posey won me over, although I was skeptical when the Giants brought him up. I hope he comes back strong in 2012.

As a child, Granderson grew up a fan of the Atlanta Braves, choosing not to root for the hometown Chicago Cubs because he often rushed home from school to watch Saved by the Bell and was disappointed when a Cubs game was on instead. Swisher was okay with the Sox for a bit then Ozzie and him did not get along at all and even the teammates were hating Swisher. I know how bad that situation can be. Nick has lots of love in NYY and it started quickly. I am upset for this for one reason, now people love him and never he knew him on the A's.
