Still might get that in a couple years, this is only a 2-year deal.
I have zero idea why Lincecum signs this deal, but what the hell do I know?

Lincecum's new contract extends only through his final arbitration year.

Reports are that the Giants offered 5 years, $100m. They also have floated 8 year deals in the past, but Lincecum prefers the shorter deals.

He wants to test the market, and I don't blame him.
He's got Barry Zito on his team, and we all know that he sucks now.
In his mind, if Barry Zito can get a lot of cash to suck, I can get double or more for being good. :D:
The logic has holes in it, but still.

It makes no sense to anyone really, but supposedly the word is that Lincecum doesn't want to feel burdened with a gigantic contract and is OK with small-term deals right now. He was under the Giants' control through the end of the 2013 season, anyway, so I guess he just prematurely got arb. out of the way. Not sure a pitcher can accomplish much more than he has to push his value even higher.
Whatever works for you, I guess. Joke I heard is that when all you wear is ratty t-shirts and you never cut your hair, $40 million goes a long way.
