Wasn't it around 85 when the Sox really started to suck after they ripped apart that team they had in 83 by adding a bunch of veterans? O yeah, and the GM was one of JR's lap dogs too.

Yep, they got Ozzie that year as a main part of that particular rebuilding project. But until Larry Himes came along, there was no real direction to things. I smell that again.

Himes? Larry Himes is the one who made it worse-----who brought in such winners as Jerry Royster and Gary Redus

He also drafted players like Frank, Robin etc.

was it really worth it though--I mean no GM has brought us a championship since Frank Lane

Himes didn't do much of anything with the parent club. His Sox teams of 1987-89 were all terrible. His real forte was building the farm system. His four #1 draft picks were the greatest in franchise history.

1987 - Jack McDowell
1988 - Robin Ventura
1989 - Frank Thomas
1990 - Alex Fernandez

There would be no 90's championships for the Sox without Larry Himes.

Correct.

Those teams weren't "Wild Card tie-breaker game Champions" either.

No argument here. I started writing my column back when "80 Years and Waiting" was the title.

I think it's unfortunate Himes wasn't allowed to build the Sox to their completion. He started from the wreckage of Hawk's mess in 1986, and got the team up to 94 wins by 1990. I'm not sure he was the guy to get the Sox to "point C", but we can all agree the guy Reinsdorf hired for the job Ron Schueler never got it done.

Einhorn would be dead if he stayed,he suffered from high blood pressure problems and stress to boot.
