Sounds like trade talks are very far along.

Sources tell me that the Cubs and Tigers are down the road on a deal that would send Matt Garza to the Motor City. bit.ly/nEEuDg

When I say "down the road" on trade talks with the Tigers for Garza I mean that talks have progressed far beyond the initial stages.

Heard Tigers are open to talking Jacob Turner, but far more reticent when it comes to 3B Nick Castellanos.

Other names being thrown around are Smyly and Crosby. Would be a great pickup for both teams I'd think. Would certainly make the Tigers even more of a favorite. Turner would be a great get for the Cubs too.

Maybe you shouldn't have used the phrase "on the road" if you felt the need to explain what it meant. Dip****.

That sucks bigtime. A Verlander, Garza, Porcello top three would be great for them. Also, Turner and Castellanos??? That would have to give the cubs a top 10 farm system. I doubt they get both! Still, if they are seriously going to move Garza they will get a haul. I thought the Yankees and Blue Jays wanted him. Why does it have to be the Tigers?

Doesn't sound like the Tigers are willing to give up Castellanos. Turner is a more than worthy centerpiece though.

Agreed on the Tigers rotation. Verlander, Garza, Porcello, Fister, and Scherzer could be quite the rotation.

Kaplan's a known tool but this rumor was also posted on CBSports.com (http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/34292183) last night:

Just over an hour ago, I surmised that the Cubs' reportedly strong interest in Paul Maholm was a true sign that they were set to deal Matt Garza (UPDATE: The Cubs have indeed signed Maholm). Sure enough, a report from Dave Kaplan of Comcast Chicago says that the Cubs and Tigers are "down the road in discussions" on a trade proposal that would send Garza to Detroit.

You've got to hope some other team swoops in and offers something better for Garza. Tigers are going to make life miserable. Frankly, I'm not sure what the Sox are doing (is it a rebuild or not?) but you'd think if guys bounce back (read Dunn, Rios and Peavy primarily) they'd have a chance. If the Tigers get better the chances for us lessen significantly.

From what I have read it sounds like the Tigers are more willing to give up Turner than Castellanos. Casey Crosby would be a nice addition for the Cubs but hasn't he had some arm/shoulder problems in the past (TJ)?

Of all the times the Yankees don't want to give up top prospects.

I'm okay with Detroit getting Garza. Opens up another possible trading partner for the Sox and Floyd. It also makes it even further apparent the Sox won't be competing next year. Hopefully allowing Kenny to plan for 2013 and beyond.

Supposedly they are skeptical of Garza's ability to handle New York City, which I could buy. He's always seemed like kind of a hot-head.

Ha, right, the Tigers still suck.

They're still better than us until proven otherwise.

Don't worry, that's what he said about another Detroit team before football starts. That worked out.

Yes, unfortunately the Lions are slightly better than the Bears when they start Caleb Hanie for 1/2 the season.

I have zero confidence in KW being able to plan anything long term. He can't see past today.
