I thought they couldn't hire anyone else from Boston.

He committed a sin while he was there. He is expendable.

Valentine WANTED him as a coach - Lucchino said NO WAY

I thought it was just a bad joke when we called them the Red Cubs.

Buckner IS in the Flubs Hall of Fame so he does have a major connection.

Truth is Buckner has borderline HoF credentials but a 'little roller behind the bag' has defined his career.

Hardcore Red Sox fans have NEVER blamed Buckner - our wrath was at manager John McNamara who made several 'questionable' calls that night.

Sorry, Fens. I still don't buy that.

The ESPN, WEEI generation yes does blame Buckner...

Hardcore fans blame John McNamara for....

Why did Calvin Schiraldi start the 10th when it was a miracle the Mets didn't win in the 9th..

Why wasn't Dave Stapelton at first in the bottom of the 10th as he has been for defensive reasons all through the playoffs.

And in the end, the game got away not because of Bob Stanley but Rich Gedman. It was more of a passed ball than a wild pitch and Gedman admits that much.

Buckner became a scapegoat of the generation that grew up after 1986....the fans who lived through it NEVER blamed him.

I really enjoyed his appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm this season. Good for him.

I'll take his word. He lives in Boston, and has a connection with the team.

Also, he said hardcore. I'm sure the band waggoners in 1986 did.

What I will never forget is how from day 1 of spring training in 1987, McNamara told the team to forget what happened.

The media guide did not even acknowledge that they had won the pennant.

Hopefully Buckner won't let this opportunity slip through his legs.

This kind of opportunity doesn't roll your way every day.
