Mercy. The Marlins and Angels have been relentless in the Free Agent sweepstakes so far.

This signing makes much more sense to me than any of the FA signings thus far.

Wow. World Series favorites for sure in my book.

Too bad CJ can't pitch in the post-season. All talk, no backup. The Rangers will now have to go to Plan B, which may be Gio Gonzalez.

Wow. World Series favorites for sure in my book.

I'll wait to see what Pujols does in the AL and north of 32 years old before declaring them even favorites to win their division.

Same thing was said about the Red Sox last season. How did that turn out?

I'm saying it, not ESPN. Personal thought. If ESPN sais that then different story and they will probably not and ESPN should be mocked accordingly.

That said, I think LAA always is a step away from being a great team.

This time they took two steps.

Damn.

I bet the Angel's accountant just threw up.

They certainly should give the Rangers a hell of a run.

This actually is a decent deal for market value. Wilson's never going to win the Cy Young award, but he's a solid pitcher during the regular season.

I really am failing to comprehend where Wilson got this rep for being a bad play-off pitcher. In 2010, he was fine, 24 IP, 17 H, 10 BB, 17 K, .191 BAA, 1.11 WHIP.

OK, he wasn't great this year, but it's only 5 starts. Every pitcher has a stretch where they struggle for 5 starts.

My biggest concern with Wilson is that he's already 31 years old and has been a starter for only 2 seasons now. Anyone think he's going to be worth that contract by 2013 or 2014?

I don't think he's a bad playoff pitcher at all. As you said, things happen in a postseason. He's just not an ace. Teams aren't fearing Wilson in a short series. He's a solid rotation guy, and that's it.

You could also argue that his history of being a reliever could portend to more durability since his arm doesn't have starter innings piled onto it from a decade or so of service.

He's probably not worth his dollar quote in pitching metrics. But the market talks, and he cashed in.

Does anyone think Texas now might be willing to trade one or two MLB ready pitching prospects for Danks?

The names out there for the Rangers are James Shields, Matt Garza, Gio Gonzalez, Andrew Bailey. But making a run at Danks wouldn't surprise me.

Why would Oakland trade within their division?

Probably from only 1 win in 9 post-season starts. He's also a bit of a jackass as a human being and when you talk big, don't back it up, then refuse to take responsibility for it...maybe magnifies your failings.

I thought we had all learned by now that pitcher's W-L record is literally the worst stat to judge their performance.

Fielding Percentage?

Fielding Percentage?

Fielding percentage is a stupid stat, but that's at least only on him and maybe the scorekeeper. W-L is a stupid stat that is literally at the mercy of every other guy on the roster.

I was thinking the same exact thing Frater. And seeing how KW likes to deal with teams he's had some past dealings with, it almost seems inevitable that the Rangers strike a deal for Danks. (and Floyd??)

As is ERA, WHIP, etc... About the only pitching stats not at the mercy of the team are walk, strikeout and HR related stats.

This is a bad contract.

Before it's over, this contract will end up hurting the Angels more than it will help them.
