@jcrasnick (https://twitter.com/#%21/jcrasnick) Jerry Crasnick
Aaron Rowand's agents have talked to the #WhiteSox (https://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23WhiteSox) about a return engagement in Chicago. He wants to play in 2012.

I suppose he'd be a low cost filler if DeAza or Rios are duds and he'd probably put some meat in the seats.

He's better than Kotsay. That should net him 400+ at bats. Oh nevermind...Ozzie is gone now.

Maybe Minnie will PH this year? It could be one of those years.

Any chance you could either use a thread title that gives a clue what it's about, or at least something in the first post besides a link? That way, people will know whether they care enough to follow the link.

Better yet, summarize the link for those who are fireball-blocked from it. I feel like the OP and second poster are having a cryptic conversation.

Aaron Rowand's agent has contacted the White Sox about a possible return.

Not good enough. What you need to do is give everyone who clicked that link the 7 seconds (12 on a slow internet connection) of their life back that was wasted by finding out what it was about.

It's not that hard to make a thread title that gives you a clue what the thread is about.

The quality of his sarcasm matches the magnitude of the problem he's criticizing.

FWIW, Rowand signed a minor league deal with the Marlins.

The Marlins now have more pieces of the 2005 World Series champs than the Sox do. :?:

I don't know about the not so smart baseball move (I think Robin will be fine and I don't know whether he can apply to the smart baseball part anyway since he isn't playing the games), but I do think the feel good PR move part is covered so far with the Ventura hire.

Perhaps I should clarify. I'm fine with the Ventura hiring. It was Rowand I was commenting on. While a Rowand signing as a 4th outfielder would have been "comfort food" for Sox fans, it wouldn't have made much sense to have an aging veteran outfielder on the decline taking up a roster spot.

Is it ARow 2004?

I wish Alex Rios could at least provide some of that "comfort food," because he's definitely providing all the rest of that description.

Rios is only 1 year removed from .284AVG/21HR/88RBI and is only 30 years old. Rowand is coming off two straight declining seasons, lost his starting spot, and is also past his "prime years" at 34 years old. As it stands, Rios was a definite underachiever in 2011 and is a candidate for a bounceback season. Tough to say that Alex is in decline right now based on one horrendous season. It's a safer bet that Rowand's days of being a productive starter are over. Rowand might fit in as a 4th outfielder in Miami but there just wasn't much of a fit here when we have so many outfielders already.

With it being a minor-league deal, you're spot on what they're looking at him for.

If the Sox want to try and get something out of his name and connection to 2005 in terms of draw, they could have made a similar deal.

Oh I'm not actually saying I want Rowand to sign here. I understand Rios had a down year. I guess I just saw some humor in it and had to make light of the current seemingly desolate state of the Sox' lineup.
